I have the Z170-A running an i7 6700k and haven't got any problems with it. Its a good mid/high tier motherboard.

They don't really catch fire, you'd probably be fine honestly. I had a 1070 FTW for a month before that whole VRM stuff was brought up to light and it worked fine. Then I got it replaced with a MSI Gaming X, which is the card I would recommend.
