I'm thinking about buying an e-reader. Which one does /g/ recommend?
>>
>hay guise wat shud i buy
>>
Is the simple amazon kindle good?
>>
I personally use Kobo, but to be honest its your choice. Never tried a Kindle, and I wanted to,but there's no point in buying another E-reader.
>>
if you get a kindle, you should know that converting everything to mobi is a pain in the ass. I have a kindle voyage and it's good, but I feel like I should have got a kobo instead.
>>
The kindle is good if you're the type of person that enjoys having their girlfriend fucked by other men in front of you.
>>
>>57729544
this, buy the kobo aura h2o
>>
If you get the kindle, make sure to get on with a backlight.
Being able to read in bed is awesome.
>>
>>57729535
No, get the Paperwhite instead. The backlight is a must have and you'll thank me later.
>>57729538
A book takes about 20 seconds to convert with Calibre.
>>
>>57729636
So how's that expandable storage?
Oh wait, should have gotten a kobo, kek.
>>
>>57729636
Ugh, having to do an extra step just to read a damn book...
>>
>>57729636
>A book takes about 20 seconds to convert with Calibre.
That's true, but it's still an extra step that makes it a little harder to use a kindle. I'm happy with my purchase but if I was buying again I wouldn't choose kindle just because epub seems to be the dominant format and kindles don't work with it.

Also the feature that lets me email books to my kindle stopped working for some reason, which is annoying as well.
>>
>>57729492
kobo h2o is the best on the market
>>
>>57730183
Kobo Aura One is better.
>>
>>57730183
>>57730612
>>57729567
kobo's break, i bought one
get a kindle
>>
>>57730638
Did you get a refund?
>>
Kindle Paperwhite rocks. You don't even need to convert books, just mail them to your kindle email with "convert" as subject and amazon converts for you. A few minutes later the book is on your kindle. No usb transfer bullshit
>>
I have owned original kindle keyboard, kindle w/o keyboard, voyage (left it on a plane) and now paperwhite. Its good and converting is easy but get the latest kobo (aura one)
>>
>>57730692
>don't just copy files to it, use this botnet service where your ereader is online and amazon goes through all your books ;)
>>
Anything with high res and expandable storage, so no kindle
>>
>>57729492
Kobo Glo HD, probably. Maybe even some noname chink ones.

Don't get a bigger and heavier reader (like the Aura One), unless you know exactly why you need it.

>>57730895
>expandable storage
Not needed for ebooks.

Get a normal cheap tablet with a good screen.

Battery life on kindle is nice, and the backlight is amazing on the paperwhite, but it's slow as fuck and having a tablet that you can't watch porn on is mind numbingly dumb

Amazon released a Kindle for manga, but only in Japan.
>>
>>57730692
It's easier just to use Calibre to convert your books to mobi or azw3 format

also you should keep your Kindle in airplane mode
>>
>>57729492
Kindle probably has best screen quality.

All ebook readers use the same screen from made by E Ink in Taiwan, but there is variation from font-rendering in software and backlight design.

Onyx Boox series has unlocked Android, and you can install any ebook reader app you want on it.
>>

Don't they do the same thing anyways, just more from the tablet? Surely there is some glare protector screen you can buy.

You can pay $15 to get rid of ads.

Does anyone know if you can disable the lockscreen if you have a Kindle without ads? I don't care about the ads, but I hate the lockscreen.

Better battery life: most eReaders claim to go for several weeks on a single charge
eInk: I don't fucking understand this shit right here but apparently these devices can display text like your'e actually looking at a physical book

I don't even have any kind of eReader, but I wanna get one.
Any anons here have the kindle paperwhite? It has a frontlit screen, which I definitely need.
Also, I would love to read some weeb mangas on it

Go for the Kobo Glo HD. Is cheap, with a good resolution (300ppi), frontlit and fully hackeable.

When Amazon stops marginalising the disables.
>>
Get a paperwhite. I've never been more happy with a purchase in my entire life.
I like to purchase books so having the amazon library is nice.
It's also really simple to convert with Calibre. I download my mangas and they are a brease on Kindle. Just remember to check for dead "pixel" as soon as it arrives and ask another one if it has one, that's a problem I had, Amazon will have no problem sending you another one.
Books are cheaper and it's better for traveling. My Kindle got me back into reading, and I will be buying books on it again as soon as I am done with the full physical Harry Potter collection I had to read.

P.S : Get a case, they are cheap, look nice, and the official ones turn on/off the screen just by opening/closing.
>>
>>57747798
E-ink basically means that even in full darkness, you can read with the backlight and your eyes won't hurt.
>>
>>57751850
Just realized I look like a total shill. But really, if your goal really is to read and only read, you just can't go wrong with it.
>>
>>57729492
Any Kobo. Do not get the Swindles, they're locked down pieces of shit that use special formatted books and can't read epubs without converting them.

Are E-Ink displays held back by the very fact that they're E-Ink displays, or would putting a decent processor and some memory in them speed up the transitions? I've watched a bunch of videos and reading any normal book is fine but comics and PDF's seem to be fucked because the massive amount of pixels that change. Flipping pages of a comic book looks bearable but zooming on a comic book or PDF is fucked.

I'm considering investing in the Kobo Aura One just because the 7.8" bigger than normal display, high-dpi screen and blue light shift control all appeal to me. It is so fucking expensive for what it is but I figure if I buy it now I won't have to buy another ereader for like at least 5 years, maybe even 10
>>
>>57752264
It's definitely the display.
>>
>>57752264
ye this one looks good but rather expensive
>>
>>57752300
Thought so, works pretty fucking well for your standard text-only book anyway; only struggles with pretty detailed comics and PDFs (which I don't think should even be used on an ereader anyway) - so it's not that big of an issue
>>57752367
It is expensive, but if you treat it well i'd say it would easily last you 5 years, which is about $65 a year to read unlimited books in pretty good quality. It could even last you 10 years which at that point you've it would have been about $33/year.

I'd say it's a worthwhile investment if you're planning on using it rather regularly
>>
>>57752491
can read in the bath without getting the pages all wet which is cool
>>
>>57752538
or take it to the beach and not worry about fucking anything up
>>
>>57729492

Got the Kindle 4, later replaced it with Paperwhite 2.
Gave the 4 to my brother who managed to crush the display in under a week, but after replacing the screen for a new one bought off jewbay it still works to this day.

Perfectly happy with both of them except for the format support. I don't give a shit about their politics, I want my reader to support all of the goddamn common formats so that I don't have to convert everything, it's not exactly easy when half of the books you read are in subhuman Slavic languages that get all kinds of fucked up in the process.
>>
>>57752264
>I'm considering investing in the Kobo Aura One
Same here. It's kinda pricey but it looks very good
>>
Kobo Glo HD, install Kobo Start Menu and KOReader.
>>
>>57752491
>but if you treat it well i'd say it would easily last you 5 years, which is about $65 a year to read unlimited books in pretty good quality
It's $230, not $325
>>
>>57750581
what.

you know that requires red LEDs, right? that's hardware. you don't have a program for hardware.

you can expand the memory, by dd'ing the internal memory to another larger card, then changing partition sizes.
