that software uses DLNA. Well, I am not sure if mine is better, because I never used yours. Mine seems more lightweight and I don't know if yours only works in the same network (i can stream with mobile data). Subsonic also lets you choose how it transcodes, and much more stuff.
That said, it supports DLNA too so it's probably not a step down. It is part of the premium featues though ($12 a year)

This is the program that was used back in the early 00s to make animations, mainly by the nips.

I create and release filesets for a bunch of different torrent sites so I use things that are probably only used by a couple of other people.

For music (live show recordings in FLAC) it's PHPRecDB (which isn't even available anymore), Traders Little Helper and MP3Tag.

I also record a few TV shows direct from broadcast/satellite so I use DVBView, TS-Doctor and h264 TS Cutter. The rest of what I use is standard like MKVTooknix or Vidcoder.
