I'm getting an Asus Zenbook Prime (4gb ram, intel hd 4000, i7) that can't be upgraded. I would like to install a Linux distro (I'm thinking Xubuntu) that's somewhat easy for beginners. What should I install?
when in doubt, go with ubuntu. xubuntu is a good derivative.
now go install it and get off /g/ before you become another distro hopping faggot.

XFCE isn't "for noob"
Settings in the gui are so lacking that you're going to be forced to do command line shit to fix your machine.
You're on XFCE and the clock on the taskbar is wrong, what do you do? You'd think you can just right-click it and choose some option to adjust time, right? WRONG! How about going to the system settings and finding a Time And Date configuration? WRONG!
You stupid asshole, you have to run ntp or ntpdate from the terminal. Isn't that obvious?
I would only ever recommend XFCE to anybody if they're a turbo autist or some beyond poverty using a laptop from 12 years ago with only 512MB of ram.
