To explain, on IRC I read, some guy found their private tracker is actually not so private as it uses http only.
Then xanax devs/admins came in and defended, saying their tracker is "redirecting to https", like its an obvious security fix.
The dude told them, there is nothing stopping someone from MITM the initial http and fuckin over their users, for whatever reason.
Then they claimed, their users should anyway enter "https" as announce url, and completely ignore whats given to copy-paste in their user interface.

Seedpoints would have remedied this.

A lack of seedpoints does ensure longer seeding, I agree, but it also makes you insanely protective of your ratio, unless youve built a huge buffer.

For example: If I wanna watch an anime, I can go to AB and get a massive selection, and not worry about picking a freeleech torrent if I don't like the subber/encode/whatever.

If I want some music, then you have to think about whether it's really worth it download from what.cd, or if you should just scour the internet for alt sources and verify them.

Trackers shouldn't be the fucking stock market of ratio. It should be about sharing files.

Many torrents on what.cd were seeded by only one or a few people. Anything that counts toward your upload when you didn't actually upload anything is not going to encourage long term seeding, which is something a music library like wcd/xnx/pth NEEDS.
The only way a system like this would work is if you got freeleech tokens or something that doesn't affect your ratio, so you're forced to seed to maintain your ratio but you're still free to download as long as you try and seed.

What I do is download every and all freeleech torrents I can and seed them forever. I managed to get 600GB of upload on what.cd this way with my shitty 360KBps up connection.
Besides, with the system I proposed you wouldn't have that issue. As long as you kept trying to seed torrents, you'd continue to get freeleech tokens, so you can still be an active downloader. In addition, since your ratio won't directly improve from just trying to seed, you'll still have to actually upload data to other people so you can maintain a ratio.
This system would encourage downloading instead of hoarding, making it easier for everyone to seed, while also encouraging long term seeding with rewards and strict ratio requirements. It'd also be accessible to new people who have no idea how to build ratios on private trackers.

How long did you seed for though? I literally seeded for 4-5 years on some torrents. I also seeded 24/7. And when I say I downloaded freeleech, I meant I spent 10 minutes downloading every single freeleech torrent that was listed, in every format. The goal is to compensate for your shitty connection by increasing the odds that you'll seed to someone at any given point in time. The more torrents you seed the higher the chance someone may download from you, even if it's only for a bit.
Another thing I might suggest is when there are sitewide free leeches, go download a bunch of torrents that only have 1 or 2 seeders. If someone downloads one of them you might get a bit more upload than usual, but it seems like a crap shoot for the amount of storage you'd be taking up. Still worth trying if your connection is that slow.
