depends. I got my m40's because they are smaller than m50's so I get use them when on a train, plane, or anywhere else on the go. If you are using them at home and don't plan to take them anywhere, I would probably go with the m50's as they have more bass. But if you like flat, reference audio, the m40's are optimal.
