Nothing spectacular for audiophiles but I still recommended them for the value. Had I not, I'd buy them again. (UK deal last year was good)

Nah, you did good mate. If they're your first open backs, the soundstage will likely blow you away.

They're not top of the line, but they're some of the best you can get, without spending copious amounts of cash.

Open to other options and can confirm I have a good headphone amp (I think).

Said amp is Asus Essence One MK II Muses Edition.

My AKG K702 headphones got damaged by my crappy Creative onboard sound where the headphones work well 90-95% of the time (but usually makes static noise for some high frequency songs and issue is intermittent rather than continuous).
Sound issue a lot less worst with my new amp.

It's the best for normies, HD600 is the sweet spot for quality, past that you're either retarded or a high functioning autist, because speakers vastly outperform at those price points.

Really, it's kind of apples and oranges.

598s are more comfy to wear imo, and the mids and soundstage are better, where the k701s are a bit better on the bass side, and have a "closer" feel? It's a bit hard to explain.

The 598s are better suited to a variety of genres, and the flatter response makes them better for audio editing and mixing work, where the k701s will be better for listening for pleasure and things with heavy bass. Weirdly, the 598s, even though having flatter bass, seem to have more punch on certain bass hits. Neither are bad, and they are different enough that having both around isn't a bad thing.

The HD558s are cheaper and sound about the same, if you remove the foam rubber strips from inside the ear cups.

Unless you got it on a sale, for the same or less than the HD558s would have been, you fucked up.
