It's mostly trash unless you can live with using nothing but web based interfaces. That said buy a cheap one and install dsl .
>>
>>57678845
it has no games so yes
>>
There really is no reason to use chrome OS if you can install loonix

You can run command line and X applications natively via Crouton. It's easy to setup.

it's a good facebook machine. most people never use their laptop for anything else anyway so they might as well go with chrome OS. at least that one is idiot proof and doesn't require them to call you every other week because they broke their windows installation again
>>
imo cheap chromebooks are shit, the parts are falling off the fucking thing
>>
>>57678992
Why bother? There are no redeeming features to iOS

Would you say the highend ones is worth it?
>>
>>57678845
you would be better off getting a regular laptop and removing windows and putting Linux on it, or buying a laptop with linux preinstalled from Dell or System76

- The UI is very fast because it runs Wayland.
- The panel is made up of websites instead of applications. Since I use a browser 99% of the time, the panel no longer has a browser window and nothing else.
- There are many useful touchpad gestures by default. Linux DEs really need this.

The high end ones cost more money than a normal notebook. Buy a cheap good specced laptop and install CloudReady on it.

Makes sense for a very limited user like your grandmother. My grandmother literally uses no programs other than her browser.

If you've ended up on /g/, it's gonna be constraining and a bit of a meme.

Alright, thanks. I just got a thinkpad instead
>>
I wish chromebooks weren't so expensive
I'd buy one if it was under 50€

I'm using an acer CB3-111 right now and I love it. Bought it off craigslist for $70 about a year ago and I installed galliumos on it. Works like a charm. Can't play any games (besides a n64 emulator that I use) but everything else works fine: sublimetext, chromium, vlc, HDMI output, it's a complete desktop instead of ChromeOS's locked-down mess.

Honestly it's the best $70 I've ever spent. It does everything I need it to and it's light and portable. Just moved to Vietnam to teach English and this thing works fine as my only computer (other than my Galaxy S4).

If you're rendering a movie in 4k, the 1.5gb of ram will have a tough time, but for normie use it's perfect.

I have an ancient Samsung Chromebook.

It's great for situations where you really only need a notebook to do web stuff. I personally use it occasionaly when friends don't have a smart tv and want to watch YouTube / Netflix: connect the thing with HDMI and done.

Battery lasts forever, and the touch gestures are really nice. It's also breddy fast.

I wouldn't really recommend it as a main notebook: it's really only good for watching some media, browsing, e-mailing and writing documents et cetera.

Hope this helps someone.
