Why do external hard-rives vibrate when using them
>>
>why does a disk spinning at 5400RPM that's not bolted to anything want to move around

you tell me
>>
>>57667565
anon..
>>
>>57667565
because they have fast spinning disks inside them.
>>
>>57667565
>hard-rives
I don't know, I have an old WD one that doesn't vibrate much at all.
>>
>>57667591
I want to touch one with my penis
>>
>18 plus
Neck yourself right now
>>
>>57667611
It would be very painful
>>
>>57667663
7200 you
>>
>>57667663
For you
>>
>>57667591
>>57667599
Why do they spin?
>>
>>57668632
Its got a little motor in the middles that goes really fast.
>>
>>57669489
but whats the motor for?
>>
>>57669584
to make them spin

were you dropped on the head as a child?
>>
>>57667565
Because data is stored unevenly on the disk, it will cause a vibrating effect when the motor spins it.
>>
>>57669617
but why do they spin?
>>
>>57669659
to balance out the rotational velocidensity
>>
>>57669630
The problem often comes from defragmentation.

When data is heavily fragmented it actually helps to balance out the disk because the data is scattered all over the place. When you do a defragmentation, all the data is moved together so that it's quicker to access, but then you end up with a portion of the drive being full of data and heavier, and another portion of the drive being empty and lighter, and this throws the disk totally off balance when it spins.
>>
>>57669675
eh?
>>
>>57669685
don't you fucking 'eh' me you fucking piece of shit
>>
>>57669768
I don't understand あのんくん
>>
>>57669787
am i not speaking american clearly enough for you to understand, zippy?
Rotational
Velocidensity
>>
>>57669816
yea but could you explain?
>>
>>57669816
>>57669935
Stop fighting please you're scaring me.
>>
>>57669659
They spin to access the data written on the discs.
>>
>>57670891
why not just read it without spinning?
>>
>>57667565
It's the motor
>>
>>57670898
How?
>>
>>57670959
my memory stick doesn't spin
>>
>>57670898

Theyre kind of like CD or LP disks
>>
>>57670988
Sucks to be you I guess
>>
>>57671043
au contraire
>>
>>57667565
>external hard-drives with disks

What? I didn't know these exist, I thought all were SSDs. Doesn't it break easily?
>>
>>57667565
get an external enclosure and a ssd.

no more vibrations
>>
What I love to do when they are spinning full speed is grab them and move them around in the air.
It pushes back. Kind of neat.
>>
>>57671094
Not unless you're an idiot. If you just leave it alone it'll be fine.
>>57671103

Neither does an ssd. Checkmate atheists

This is the nu-/g/, everyone. Just rename it /nug/.

I heard on facebook this was a free tech support site. Really informal but I like that, gives it a nice personal feeling like my own army I can call on whenever I need it.

Fucking pleb.
>>
>>57667565
it's called rotational velocidensity. don't worry, it's not a big deal unless you're trying to load a really, REALLY big file, then sometimes the velocidensity builds up and the disk can move from the momentum and might fall off and get damaged.
>>
>>57667565
they vibrate because the vibrations wake up the ones and zeroes, so they move faster
duh, common sense (tm)
>>
>>57670959
The idea to cover the whole disk with a giant head isn't new.

I've got one of those toshiba 1tb hard drives. it clicks and annoys me when plugged into my USB hub - no clicking when plugged straight into computer. is it not getting enough power through the hub? it still works fine but the clicking when in use is really annoying.
