After reading a bit about the rationale for replacing/not using systemd i decided to give it a go
>lo and behold
everything broke
>follow handy guide on replacing systemd with openrc
>there's two versions with different steps and different layouts for some reason
>red flag
>everything goes ok
>reboot
>lightdm won't start
>openbox won't start
>NetworkManager isn't running
>ethernet doesn't work either
>wpa_supplicant doesn't work
>I'll just copy my notes (the only thing not backed up) to a flashdrive and do a fresh arch install
>doesn't automount
>mount doesn't work
>fuck this
>I'll lose all my notes
>do a fresh arch install
>git clone gitorious/config.git
>./automove.sh
>yaourt kile-git
>yaourt sublime
>everything works
what did we even use before systemd? someone should audit it

PEBCAK
Works on my machine.
tldr:

it's not gonna work, bub

Um, doesn't OpenRC need its own initscripts written, incompatible with systemd, and vice versa?
It only makes sense nothing is spawned.
I'm actually on Gentoo, and having to write my own daemons myself is the reason I stopped my attempts to try out runit/s6. I just can't bother with writing initscripts for every new daemon I might wish to have in the future.

>cry because mpv does not work
wo literally useless
openrc works fine with the apg pkgs
you did not enable the services before you reboot or something like that
there was no script for a greeter included last i checked
>>57664645
mpv-light from aur works
it could be build with abs if you know which flag is causing the libsystemd.so crap
>>57664637
Gentoo works fine out of the box without systemd.
>>57664793
Um, yeah, OpenRC works fine.
I was talking about wanting to try runit, and how it would require me to rewrite the daemons, which is why I didn't do it. That's the point I was making.
I think switching from systemd to OpenRC on a systemd-primary distro is probably pretty the same.
Unless I misunderstand something about how it works.

Systemd unit obviously do not work with openrc, but still I don't get why you care.
Openrc script are provided and installed by default when you install a new daemon.

You did this to yourself.
