However from what we know so far, and what AMD has shown so far, their IPC is close/better than intel's latest.

What matters then is how high their clocks will go, which is something of a mystery. I suspect the defaults would be close to 3.5Ghz but I dont know how well their chips would OC. If they can OC similar to Intel's OC (i.e close to 4.5ghz), then the performance would be equivalent across the board +-10%. Then the matter is how many cores/threads

I can't even get my 2500K to 4.5Ghz stable. Hyper 212 EVO.
Maybe my motherboard isn't good enough? Or I'm just not skilled enough at overclocking.

I still use an i7 960 on a Dell motherboard, so no overclocking, and a broken memory channel.

My i5 2500k only did 4.5ghz with 1.46v. I fried it and the Mobo by using 1.53v for 4.6ghz.

Replaced it with an i5 3570k that needs crazy voltage for 4.4ghz and sits at 4.3ghz.


Feels like I missed out on all the fun of the 5ghz CPUs.

For some reason, my SLI would only work properly with the OC.
When I was playing TW3, both my cards would only get ~60% utilisation. But when I OC'ed the CPU they went up to 95%. Didn't know it would make that much of a difference.

well with my cpu (3570k) if you want 45x generally you need like 1.25-1.3v
so for example you could bump it up to 1.25 to try, if it crashes right away then bump by .01, if it seems stable for a bit try .05

look up recommended max voltage for your chip, as long as you dont go over that or have high temps you'll be safe for the most part

Is anything holding me back? I feel like in some games it struggles a little bit. In Fallout 4 with a bunch of mods and 1080p with some settings on Ultra & High and God rays off I can hit 60 in the open areas, or more like a choppy 30-40 in the cities. It get's bad there.

I have an i7 3770k and im having almost the same problems on a 970 so its prob just the gpu. Unfortunately the 3.5 gigs meme is real. Everytime you go over it frames drop or games become choppy.
