IBM R51 is gonna be fairly old, but with XP it should be able to handle most light websites (Good luck with YouTube and CNN.)

$60 can get you a T6x or X6x which is the dual core series from ebay. If you are in another country that usps.com has in their list add $30 to that and find a seller who's willing to do ebay's global exchange program.

Spending $30-50 is stupid when just $10 more you can get a dual core which is a massive performance gain. C2D can easily do WP and everything else you want except for modern games and high res video.

don't buy shitty "complete" laptops with battery and drive, they'll be dead. you can order them separately and later and get fully working products and can choose an SSD

would i be able to edit fairly small websites using wordpress? will it lag a lot, and if so, will getting an ssd improve the responsiveness?
>>
>>57652145
$10-20 more can get you a C2D. You shouldn't even be considering a single core unless you are so far out in some distant land that usps does not carry and have to rely on local websites.

batteries alone cost more than the entire laptop, I can work something out for the hard and ram, but wouldn't you think that an included semi-acceptable battery is a good choice?
>>
>>57652199
thanks btw
>>
>>57652215
I'm sure that OEM batteries do cost that much. They have third party chinese batteries for $20 new which are 80% as good and last at least 2 years. You can also go with more reputable brands like AGPTEK and Anker if you think this matters and it will be $35 instead.

every seller on ebay uses too many vague words like "battery holds a charge" to try to add "value" to the entire laptop. There is a proper way to test this with acpi -V or any acpi tool for any OS but sellers don't do this. If you find a listing that has the battery last max charge, more power to you (hurr) but I've never seen this on ebay. Also as time goes on since lenovo stopped making oem batteries for the x6x series in 2012 or so, it's going to be really hard to find a genuine oem battery with life left. Even the cheapest chinese "knockoff" is going to be better than most of the batteries you find included with these old laptops for sale.

thanks for the advice anon, I'll buy I'll take your word for it, you seem to know your stuff, my aim atm is to get the best bang for buck ratio on a strictly work related laptop. I'll look into it some more, thanks a lot, I very much appreciate your time :)

i hope this isn't some shady burner laptop that you're going to use exclusively to run a drug storefront on TOR.

because its definitely not, let me remind you not to log in to your facebook on it at starbucks.,

don't worry, I'm too naïve and clueless when it comes to technology to do any such thing.
do drug suppliers use wordpress to make their websites? that's fucking hilarious.
