Early typewriters were shiiiiiit and would jam all the time when fast typists typed.
Typewriter manufacturers switched to QWERTY to slow them down.
They then sped up and kept pace with the typewriters getting better

It already took me some damn time to get used to qwerty on an azerty keyboard... I really don't feel brave enough to learn a new layout and all...

My muscle memory is has been programmed to QWERTY after decades of use. I can't unlearn that and adopt a new pattern overnight considering I can type and work fairly fast with QWERTY.

This may help young people learning computers who can select which format they want to adopt early on before building muscle memory.
