I still use XP. Though the pc it's on is not used to browse the internet. Its dedicated role is for media encoding tasks. Headless, no mouse,keyboard,etc. Just tower. I connect via rdp when I need to use it.

You need:
Windows 2000 SP4
Internet Explorer SP1
^ enable use TLS 1.0 in internet options
IE6 security update KB2722913
Windows 2000 SP4 Update Rollup 1
Windows Roots Update
Windows Update Agent 3.0
All the Windows Updates from Windows Update and Windows Media Player 9 obtained via Windows update
Then you need to get the Extended Kernel for Windows 2000, the current version appears to be 28h. After this you need to find AppComp.cmd and you can run it on newer programs to convert them to Win2k.

I got to the Windows Update part and ran out of HDD space in my VM so I'm starting over. I also found out that if you try using Windows Installer 3.1 instead of Windows Update Agent 3.0 then Windows Update won't work.

Finally got it working in VirtualBox. It's the biggest pain in the ass to get working though. Also, turns out you gotta install the IE security update after all the other updates but before the Kernel Extender otherwise everything gets fucked.

Tried getting Chrome going but Chrome 49 just doesn't work and finding older versions of Chrome is a huge pain in the ass. Most of them just redirect you to the modern Chrome page that tells you to fuck off and install Windows 7.

Surprisingly it does. Turns out no version of Google Chrome will work in Windows 2000 though. The browser will open and the menus/tabs work but no pages will ever load anything. Firefox seems to be the best since the only other thing I could find that worked was Opera 12.18. Any version of Opera past that just had dll errors or stalled during install.

The latest Firefox Windows 2000 "officially" supports unmodified is Firefox 12 which is just fine for me. It's still very modern. Does HTML5, etc.

Windows NT 4.0 can also run an HTML5 browser. It may be getting out of date now but it does work. It's a custom build of Qtweb.

I tried that tool but all it really did was allow Chrome to install. I've got the extended kernel and the unofficial rollup 1 installed but still no dice with Chrome. It might require some other patches to work but it's pretty difficult to know which ones to install and in what order. After you've got SP4 installed you've got the following to figure out

>Update Rollup 2 (UR2)
