The work that gets outsourced is the sort of thing that anyone can be trained to do but might take a few months and that's expensive. I work with Pajeet's on a daily basis.

I've worked with several Indians.

1) Amazing woman programmer. She just got shit done and went home.

2) Two mediocre women in QA. They did pretty good work, but had horrendous comprehension of spoken English. They spent several *days* filing hundreds of bugs on arbitrary English strings in parts of a product (a CMS) that were built-in and completely unrelated to the product we were building.

3) Indian guy who was billed as a C++ programmer who didn't understand basic inheritance. I literally could not understand 90% of what he said. He could not park for shit. Like, no kidding, he seemed to have zero understanding of how motor vehicles move through space. He was working for a contracting agency.

4) Indian noob who was working at a tiny start-up when I got there. He was somewhat clever, but wrote shitty code, saw no reason to change the name of a function even though its entire body had changed purposes, and he fucked up our codebase by checking in an old, local backup of the checked-out code.

5) Oracle DBA who I had to browbeat to convince him that, no, we weren't going to have him just do manual update queries on the production server and that, yes, he had to write a testable script to automate the task. His job listing was posted in the break room in 6pt font for $60k, which was probably $20k - $30k under market at the time.

6) Brilliant co-founder of a company I worked at. Kind of a dick, but definitely very smart.

I hope Trump ends the blatant abuse of the H1B system. Republicans always cry about how we need all these brilliant people, yet the majority of H1Bs are monopolized by a couple of huge contracting firms, and I've never met a single goddamned competent software engineer working as a contractor.
