Yes.

Since everyone is insistent on being memelord fagbrains, I'll answer you OP. Lubuntu, or possibly something portable like Puppy or Slax. Plenty of choices out there.

I'll have to say Solus. I've never used a distro which such rich functionality and user experience while still being a fast and responsive distro.

Plebs, all of you.

Try Bodhi Linux. It is almost completely written in C and a fast as fuck.
My Android Phone uses more Ram and takes longer to boot.
>>
>>57629472
Isn't it just Ubuntu with E17?
Correct me if I'm wrong.

yes and E17 is quite fast

Manjaro w/ Xfce seems pretty lightweight and seksi tbqh

Arch has already been noted.
I guess"Puppy Linux" remains to be said (noticed).

There's no point in running something 10+ years old, just throw it away.
>>
>>57628132
I run solus on my old computer.
It's so lightweight and snappy that nobody would never guess the age of its components.
>>
>>57628132
Xubuntu
>>
>>57628132
Debian with LXDE works fine. How old are we talking? For anything older than 10 years, go with DSL or Puppy.
>>
>>57628132
my two favorite are

antix for something that is mostly debian

salix for something that is mostly slackware

cheers :)
>>
I recommend Bodhi Linux, it uses a legacy kernel with support for non-pae CPUs.
>>
>>57628132
debian with task-lxde-desktop or task-xfce-desktop
>>
>>57628385
Please re-read the rules for the Janitor roles, you are not supposed to remove something based on your own feelings.
>>57628132
DSL is quite good for a very low end system, although if the graphics is not good enough watching videos are still a pain.
>>
>>57628132
Recently tried ubuntu mate on a 2005 laptop. i have to say i'm surprised by how well it works, with the added benefit of not being butt ugly.
>>
>>57629454
This unironically

any distro can be lightweight.
it only depends on what software you use on top of it.
>>
>>57628132
Mint XFCE
>>
Depends how hold. nehelem old, Core-2 old, pentium 4 old, or pentium 3 old?
>>

>>57632408
Core2duo old
>>

Arch + MATE.
>>
>>57632443
Use anything.
Personally I recommend Xbuntu because I like the interface and it is based on ubuntu so you can google for ubuntu problems, giving it good support.

Don't you have some updates to catch up on or something?
>>
>>57632471
I'm not OP, just someone wondering the same.

I'm thinking between slackware/gentoo/arch + xmonad/awesomewm

This would be a machine for me to run mpd + home server on it, so there wouldn't be much updating.

I'd use Debian stable but I feel Debian is too bloated for a truly lightweight use.

E17 is buggy piece of shit, don't bother.

You can tell it's made by design students, probably vegan.

>an Ubuntu remix
>the fucking page has a loading screen
>it takes a long time to open a page with literally 11 lines of text titled 'About'

Compare their page with http://www.slackware.com/. Modern, responsive, easy to read.

I'm not going to get a distro from people who decided to just use minimal ubuntu, add packages to it, put it in an iso and call it 'their' distribution, most of the production time spent on the logo and website.

They say it's been in development for 'over 8+ years', yeah, they've been upgrading their chosen packages in Ubuntu for 8+ years.

Oh shit, look at the release notes for the new Microwatt. Now this appeals to my techie spirit.

>Whats new in Microwatt

>Less of everything! We are calling this release the “do what you want” release. We have eliminated things that people normally change like preferred web browser, music player, graphics editors/viewers, etc. and replaced them with…….nothing. You get to choose rather than uninstall, change, etc.

>We have provided a minimal set of tools to get you installed, on a network (wired or wireless) and the ability to then do what you want.

>Minimized the footprint of all basic apps where possible. Surf minimal browser, minimal PDF reader, and minimal tools so you can get installed with a low memory footprint and do what you want from there.

Sounds good to me.

But beware, some issues have been found in wattOS-R10:

>Some folks have noted issues with installing additional software from the repositories without the option of having updates checked in the “software and updates” under the preferences menu. There is also a forum POST HERE that outlines how to do that from forum member Dan.

I know my computer is safe when forum member Dan is auditing the code.

Lubuntu, Arch, Gentoo and Debian minimal, I also found Ubuntu to run just as well as Lubuntu
