so far I've installed linux on my computer and hosted a custom rom on my phone. Beyond that I don't know where to go for taking control of the technology I own.

Is there really anywhere to start, books or articles to read? Is it important to learn a programming language? Is there a specific program languages I should learn first?

Yes, the best book would probably be the one about your operating system, probably not, I couldn't tell you, but Java is okay.

Honestly, the best way to do it is to just get familiar with your own software. So in your case, finding some documentation on your operating system/ROM.

Have a CPU with stock cooler you see.
And it's always at between 58 and 72 degrees celsius.
Even at 20% it's still around 60.
Then I can be at 99% load for hours and it's still under 75 degrees.

Is this a problem?

I was looking at the raspberry pi zero and noticed that the 1.3 revision has a MIPI port on it.
If what I'm looking at is correct, it has "2 lanes" but I really can't find out what the limitations of 2 lanes would be. What would be the max resolution out to a screen?

No.

Once it starts hitting 90 degrees Celsius does it start being a problem. You'll be having shutdowns once you hit about 100 degrees.

got a new notebook and it's probably coming with win10. i've taken a look at the wiki but i still feel like asking what the best windows version is currently, especially in terms of keeping my privacy, even if it comes at the cost of neat stuff like Cortana.

the wiki pointed towards win7 but is it still gonna get updates for a while or is gonna be left behind? what about 8, how does it compare to 7 and 10?

also, considering it's brand-new, should i just format/wipe it and install whichever version i pick?

Is there a way to get the dialer in Android to play the phone tones when you dial? Alternatively is there an app that just simulates dialtones?
If I want to go a step further, how would I go about making a very simple apk that just shows a dialpad and will play the tones when I press the buttons? The easy way would be to have an audio sample of the tones for each button but I think it would be interesting to set it up like an actual dialer, where each button plays two tones depending on the x/y location on the dialpad, and instead of samples it generates the actual tones. Pretty simple, but what are some resources I could use to figure out how to do this? I know bits and pieces of different languages but aren't particularly fluent in any and always rely on references and figure it out as I go.

lol? you won't void the warranty if you reinstall the os, even the shittiest random store's warranty policy won't void from that.

I wanted a usa quarter or nickel which can hide a micro sd card inside
however when checking amazon, i noticed that although the coins appear when i search, they have text that clearly states that cannot actually hide a micro sd card inside
which is fucking stupid in my opinion, why show a card inside if one cannot fit inside

where can i get a proper coin which CAN hide a card inside?
must be a usa quarter or nickel,no other strange, overly large coins that no one carries around...

this listing claims it can fit a card

where as the countless others, such as

claim they do not have the space to fit a micro sd card

highly misleading images

I am hoping an anon here has purchased a coin like this 7 knows which ones work100% & can properly hide a micro sd card.

Neither.
Build your own, should be way cheaper.
Those builds you see go for $300 but thet are sold for $470 and $550.

Also those dont even are close to the minimum requeriments of titanfall and BF1.

GT cards dont are gaming cards.
AMD CPUs are bad for gaming.
RX460 is a low end GPU.

With $500 you can get a GTX 1050Ti, a locked I5 and a B150 motherboard with a good PSU that will reach mid settings in recent intensive games and leave you space if you ever want to upgrade to a good videocard later on.

Locked I5 as in you cant overclock it but its not a problem.
Unlocked I5 let you overclock it to make it faster but you need to spend more on a Z170 motherboard to be able to overclock (And are more expensive than B150 motherboards), also more money on a heatsink.

Since you dont even want to build a PC i dont think you are into overclocking, a I5-6400 or 6500 with a simple B150 motherboard would be enough for you.

EE or CS?
I initially wanted to go into CS because of muh freedoms of creating stuff and being able to create with next to nothing. That being said I mainly liked it because of the entrepenural potential. But lately I've come to realise that actually working as a programer might not be that fun. Should I learn to program and do EE at uni or just go CS?
>>
>>57640892
Its not that hard to understand.

Other than CPUs and their motherboards everything is compatible with everything.
Some exceptions may be cases with motherboard sizes and weak PSUs in computers that need lots of energy.

But shouldnt be a problem.

There is a build thread if you need more help or some questions.

>>

Your graphics card is overheating or damaged.
Its not a software issue but a hardware one.

If you are using a IGPU pray it is a software one.

>>
>>57641502

>>
>>57641537
I feel like it might've been a manufacturer's error; like I said i've had issues with this for quite a while, i did a full restore a while back and that fixed earlier issues like the graphics drivers crashing upon hitting the windows menu. I might try extending my warranty and seeing if they'll take care of it, but I doubt it if it's a hardware issue.

sort of, after user inputs the data the program should display a math equation and then stop. if it doesn't have a proper input.

>>
>>57641694
no need for a new class, just make sure your while clause can change. you can have a variable for this
boolean doIStillGoOn = true;
while (doIStillGoOn) {
// scanner and logic stuff
doIStillGoOn = false;
//else conditions, your variable should remain true here
}

A better coding practice is to make sure this valid data check goes first before your printing:
((num1==0)||(num2==0)||operator=='/')

Please tell me how I can improve my internet connection.

It's actually much worse than this, I'm literally waiting hours to download 200~mb files, more than that if others in the household are on as well. I go on twitch, damn stream will barely even load, much less buffer.

Asked my ISP if we could upgrade, they said that we have the best service they can provide for our area.

I think the problem is that the wiring to our house is copper instead of something newer like fiberoptics. That would cost a shitonne (likely thousands of dollars) to replace where we live.

So what can I do? I don't think there are any ISPs in my area that'll do better. Satellite is out: Believe it or not, our current connection is a definite improvement over Hughesnet.

Will buying a powerline adapter improve anything?

So, I have been learning ing C++ for a while, and for fun/practice, I'd like to write a relatively simple console application that could have some sort of practical use. So far, I've learned things such as how to use different data structures, classes, fstream, the simple stuff. The question is, are there any ideas? Other things I've made for a class (my senior year of high school, I've been taking programming classes for three years, they're pretty slow paced, though) is a console application that simulates the card game War, a version of the game battleship using ASCII characters, and and a program that solves the quadratic formula for you, showing you step by step in an html file.

Another question about C++, what is the point of not putting using namespace std; but instead putting std:: in front of certain things?

thx

Anyone here familiar with the game of life willing to help me figure out why my program isn't working properly?

I know that it's just something wrong with my 'rules', since it seems to work relatively fine, and is a fully functioning cellular automata, but I'm familiar enough with Conway's Life to know that the rules aren't right, because the normal structures aren't showing up from a randomly generated array.

This is the my calculation function:

def calcStep():
global listNew
i = 0

while i < 100 :
z = 0
while z < 100 :

if( listFull[i-1][z-1] + listFull[i-1][z ] + listFull[i-1][z+1]
+ listFull[i ][z-1] + listFull[i ][z+1]
+ listFull[i+1][z-1] + listFull[i+1][z ] + listFull[i+1][z+1]) == 2 and listFull[i][z] == 1:

listNew[i][z] = 1

elif( listFull[i-1][z-1] + listFull[i-1][z ] + listFull[i-1][z+1]
+ listFull[i ][z-1] + listFull[i ][z+1]
+ listFull[i+1][z-1] + listFull[i+1][z ] + listFull[i+1][z+1]) == 3 and listFull[i][z] == 1:

listNew[i][z] = 1

elif( listFull[i-1][z-1] + listFull[i-1][z ] + listFull[i-1][z+1]
+ listFull[i ][z-1] + listFull[i ][z+1]
+ listFull[i+1][z-1] + listFull[i+1][z ] + listFull[i+1][z+1]) == 3 and listFull[i][z] == 0:

listNew[i][z] = 1

else:
listNew[i][z]= 0

z += 1
i += 1

essentially I'm just looking at every cell around my target cell ([i][z]) and figuring out if it lives, dies, or is born.

But when I turn it off, this much louder white noise starts in the background of the mic, which is even louder than the actual heater being on. Its actually much quieter in the room when the heater is off but its much louder in the mic. Is there some sort of electrical problem going on here?

But there is absolutely no problem with switching it on and off a couple of times per day.

to my knowledge, NAS Hard drives have custom firmware that is tuned for being crammed into a tight NAS device and running 24/7, so it means antivibration technologies and shit.

Intel 3770k @ 4.3GHz
16GB DDR3
2 / 1TB HDDs
1 / 64GB SSD
1 / 512GB SSD
GTX 980 Ti
Lian-Li PC-B16
Thermalright Silver Arrow CPU Heatsink

With that out of the way I feel like the the time upgrade is soon.

Should I hold out for Intel's Cannonlake and Nvidia's Vega chips and just focus on expanding my storage (like grabing some 960GB/1TB SSDs or would Kaby Lake and & 1080Ti be a worthwhile upgrade?

I don't typically upgrade often, before I had this system I back in 2012 (GPU was a GTX 680 then)

I was using an old Phenom II X3 cpu with a Radeon 5870 and really felt the upgrade when I finally moved to Intel/Nvidia

Depends what you consider beefy. A pentium D 2.4ghz is going to choke on anything 4k. A modern i3 or i5 should be fine though.

Why would you bother streaming in 4k? You know it's all buzword bullshit, im confident in double blind you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 4k streams on a 4k monitor. Or you'd even say the 1080p one looks better because of the higher bitrate. The bandwidth required for native 4k streams, or even very good bitrate 4k streams, is much higher then most homes in america can match. If you are the 1% that can download a 50gb blueray rip in less then 2 hours, you're the exception.

HD in high bitrate will be indistinguishable from 4k in medium to low bitrate. Im sure netflix is not going to stream high bitrate 4k if next to none of their target audience is able to stream it without buffering every 20 seconds.

I bet if you're asking this question you don't even have a 4k monitor, in which case even good 4k would only look slightly better assuming netflix is using a decent bitrate for it.

Usually I'm using WebmForRetards, but since I'm on my laptop which runs XP for unrelated reasons I just use VSDC Video Editor to cut the video then use a prewritten script for ffmpeg to automatically tailor video files into 4chan friendly Webms. Every time previously the subtitles have been in though so I'm not sure what's going on. Help?

How can I detect aspect ratio on a devide using JS?
I want it so that if the ratio is less than 1:1, a button will be displayed. (I.e., if the screen is taller than it is wide.)

Its main purpose would be for showing a button to mobile users, but not desktop users. Is there a simple solution for this?

I considered that I may have to catch the resolution, split it and store it as two variables, then do a simple division and then if the quotient is less than 1, I could display the button, but that sounds tricky since I'm bad at JS. Any help appreciated!
>>
>>57646787
Go to your CSS and use your @media queries to help scale what is displayed on your page and what's not. So for example if the device is 400 x 700 or some shit, then set the display property to show it, but only if it's less than that size. Then that eliminates the worry of having to make 2 variables for it, and it controls that button being seen strictly in the mobile view and not desktop.

Alternatively, you whitelist only yourself on your connection to speed the process up and tell everyone to eat shit.

Just remembered my router is fucked up and I can't really access it properly due to some password thingamajig error.

If your roommates won't get butthurt, get a paperclip and do a hard reset, and it'll go back to the default admin/password (which is usually admin and password), then login to the router, reset the password, name of router, etc. and then throttle the data on your device.

It's more of a problem when I login, it automatically updates the router, and that update for some reason changes the password so it forces me to do a reset which also undo the update.

Fucking shitty ancient Technicolour router provided by my corrupt awful ISP.

Anyways I managed to get it working using a shady program. It's not an elegant solution, but it at least seems to work.

Using Gnome 3 under Arch, I found that some of my anime has some weird green thumbnails (pic related). Is there a fix for this? It may be an issue with ffmpeg thumbnailer or ffmpeg-libav.

Weird. I know sometimes you can also slow bandwidth using command prompt/terminal, I've never had too but I know network commands do exist.

wtf
someone suggested monogame as an alternative to XNA i might try that, thanks anyway
>>
>>57647266
It's an issue with thumbnailer, I don't remember what but I'll try to find it for you. I think it has something to do with the way it's installed.

Would be a great help man

Can anyone recommend a good to-do-list app? I tried using todoist but the fact that i have to pay for reminders kinda sucks. Any good alternatives?
>>
>>57647292
Yeah think you should use monogame as well, xna has sadly been deprecated for a while now.
>>

Oh, I managed to fix it myself eventually. I uninstalled all ffmpeg packages, installed ffmpeg-full from AUR and also ffmpegthumbnailer from AUR.
