Black Friday is mostly a scam, as with all planned sale events. They jack up the "baseline" prices so they can cut them down again and make you think you're getting a deal, but really, they're still charging an amount that makes them a giant profit overall.

Asked on the other thread but didn't get any replies: is there any switch that feels clicky to type on but isn't as loud as blues? Should I try o-rings? Want something that doesn't bother other people with noise and is as quiet as possible, but that still feels good to type on.

Question for you guys.

How would one go about getting blue LED lighting into GPCGR's modular keyboard? It uses SMD-LEDs, for which I haven't found any replacement tutorials. Can it be done, and if so, how difficult would it be?

Looking for a mechanical keyboard for home use, which means mixed gaming and programming use.

70-100$, the money limit is a tad flexible if you have a product that is highly qualitative.

Preffered layout is the American one with full numpad and F-keys.

Availability to EU and the Nordic EU market, specifically Swedenistan.

Make sure it is dried properly before working it. Electronic parts are not very flexible. And if you can, use the side closer to the core for any routering. so it doesn't squish the insides when drying.

The one in the drop is manufactured with injection molded switch stems/housings. You are not gonna recreate those without going through the same grief to deal with a manufacturer.

If you just hate Massdrop and don't want to buy it from them, then wait a year or so for the eleven rebranded versions from the same manufacturer that you'll be able to buy on Aliexpress.

Who?

A) The advantages of mechnical key switches are scientifically measurable, in terms of longevity and accuracy.
B) The purported advantages of tiny keyboards with colored key caps are not.
Therefore the most rational course of action is to buy the most economical option that provides A), and ignore B).
>>
>>57630102
Keycaps are bad, and I prefer typing on something with a backplate.
G80-3000 are pretty low quality overall.

People used to buy these as a source for switches/springs.
>>
>>57630131
By your own logic, we should only be buying the cheapest boards with known quality mechanical switches, which are definitely not first-party Cherry keyboards.
>>
>>57630131
I get what you're saying, but some people don't need certain functionalities so they take advantage of that to get cuter keyboards. It's not wrong, it just is.
>>
>>57630131
>The purported advantages of tiny keyboards...are not (scientifically measurable)
Except they are. You can measure the movement required to press keys, the time taken to do so and the effort expended during, which can be used to calculate an overall measure of efficiency.

The usual complaint with Kailhs is inconsistent quality. Any two switches on the same board, from the same batch, are liable to sound/feel completely different. They don't seem to give a shit about QC in general, and neither do the manufacturers that use them. A lot of Kailh boards in the past have had dud switches. Maybe this part has improved, though.

I have a rubberdome that cost me 25 bucks. It has lasted for 7 years and counting. No keys broken, nothing, just had to clean it once in a while. Not the most comfortable, but for comfort you don't need to spend 500 dollars. That's too much.

A drumkit, however, is not cheap. An entry level drumkit without cymbals is probably 200

True

Anything more to enhance that "muh dark minimal" style that i dig?Like some decoration on the desk or something
>>
>>57633336
Get the one you like the most and/or is the cheapest with the switches you want. Apart from the looks and backlight, they're both good.

As for your battlestation, I'd try better routing the cables, as well as adding some more interesting things that aren't just black or white to bring some more color to it. Hang posters on the walls if you have space and display some toys or figures if you're into it. Black and white isn't a bad color scheme, but when pretty much everything on your desk is black and just the walls and monitor are white, with some random LEDs on the keyboard and mouse, it looks a bit messy. You have a black desk, so try to put some white stuff over it to match the wall and not get lost.
>>
>>57633461
>try to put some white stuff

Like what? Not being ironic,i really need some ideas

I like abstract stuff if that helps you to recommend me something(mainly abstract dark sculptures/paintings)
>>
>>57633530
The stuff already on your desk are good examples. You have a dark desk, and over it you have black speakers, a black mug, a black keyboard and a black mouse. The only color you have there are LED colors that are all over the place and don't match anything, with red, green and purple. Just try to match things to the same or similar color and use it as an accent to the black and white.

I'd say stick to a more minimalist look. A Ducky One with white and grey keycaps might be a better look then that corsair keyboard. Clean up the cables and get rid of that router. As for the LEDs stick with a white and get rid off all the other colors. Don't over do it with decals and figures. Just a clean and minimalistic look will do you just fine

>>57633842
Its not that hard anon. The alphas on your keyboard are 1u, so just place them next to each other to measure how long a keycap is. For example if you take six keycaps and put them together they will be the same length as a 6u spacerbar
>>

That and the corsair keyboard will look ugly and out of place on your desk. Just get the CM

So, I got my Lolita Spyder finally.

As a mechanical keyboard newbie I am amazed at the feel of these keys (I can only imagine how quality switches might feel). I got Kailh Reds. Very smooth and great tactile feedback, even without the actuation click.

The keyboard is heavy as fuck (at least compared to my former keyboard which was a rubberdome).

Obviously I'll have to adjust the keyboard to my language because this is in EN. While I can't get other keycaps, I'll just use some stickers.

What worries me is the backlight. I either don't know how to turn it on or I've been chinked as fuck.
Anyone have any idea how this works? I've searched online but I can't get an answer. I've tried FN with arrow keys, FN with Function keys... I can get blinks using F10, F11 and F12, but I don't know what function it's performing.

Sorry for the shitty picture.

Reds don't have tactile feedback, anon.

What I mean is, it's not a mush fest like rubberdomes. Remember, I've never even touched blues or browns.
>>

Rubber domes are tactile, though I wouldn't say that they have tactile feedback.

Tactile feedback is generally considered a sudden change in tactility close to the actuation of the switch.

I thought it simply meant the feedback it gives when pressed, which, regardless of tactile bump, is obviously better then a rubber dome.

You guys seem to purchase custom color and symbol keys for your mechanical keyboards, are there any available that have not just English, but also Cyrillic characters on all the keys?

I like it when they print the secondary character on the front of the key instead of the top, but that wouldn't be a necessity.

The problem is that all cherry switches are generally louder then rubber domes. The only mechanical switch that is quieter then them would be matias quiet click, which you can buy here:

well you're in luck because cyrillic is actually a very popular script for keycaps
enjoypbt has a set on aliexpress. they are rather pricey though
>>
>>57639831
Neat, do you have any clue where I can go look for some?

I'm just checking through the OP and wasdkeyboards don't seem to have any even though they showed up when I did a quick google search

>>57639921
Thanks, you are right though 100 shekels really is rather pricey, and I don't know if I trust those Chinese

it's sad that the most ridiculous things on that guy's desk is the artisan keycaps
>>
>>57639979
I've never personally bought any, but if you need a cheap solution, you can buy stickers for about $5 at some random store. Extremely easy to find.
If you want some specific type of keycaps, probably aliexpress or Russian electronics sites.
>>
>>57639979
well if you are buying from wasdkeyboards, you get to customize the keycaps as much as you want, so you can just put cyrillic letters on them

however, they aren't very nice keycaps as they're just thin ABS plastic, and their printing wears off after a while. most people are advised not to get them unless they really need that customization

the enjoypbt set would be a lot better in quality, especially since 50 burgerbucks for the abovementioned wasdkeyboard caps isn't considered worth it to most people

as far as buying from china, enjoypbt is a chinese company so buying from aliexpress would indeed be legit

there is a group buy going on called XDA milestone and it has an option for cyrillic caps. it's priced pretty standard as far as keycaps go and international is a flat rate of $20 (i'm assuming you are not in the us). but since it is a group buy it'lll take a while for you to actually get them

if even wasdkeyboards is too expensive, well, scouring aliexpress for something cheap is another solution

The fuck are these people smoking? The whole board looks like a gimmick.
Personally I think it looks hideous and would never consider it, but if you are poor then maybe go for it.

I suggest you read the FAQ linked in the OP. You see corsair has an issue with LEDs dying. Ducky fixed their LED issue by having two separate PCBs (one for the switches and one for the LEDs). Corsair also uses an non standard layout so getting replacement keycaps will be troublesome if you do. Also I don't really like the gaymer aesthetic.

This keyboard is waaaaay too overpriced. In the US it sells for under 80 bucks and is considered a mediocre budget board. It uses thin laser etched ABS keycaps that will wear out with a month of heavy use. Also the non standard stabilizer placement and non standard bottom row will make finding replacement keycaps even more of a pain then corsair. Honestly I wouldn't recommend it since for even cheaper you can get keyboards with back lights, programmable macros, nkro over USB, and double shot keycaps (pic related is what they are).

Honestly the CM and Ducky keyboards are your best options
>>
>>57642032
it's not that I can't spend. just not sure if I can see the utility in spending more than $100 when I've been getting by fine with pic related
>>
>>57642094
There really is no need to get a mechanical keyboard, unless you want something that feels different. Rubberdomes are tactile and have an actuation force of around 65g. Some people want lighter switches like gateron clears that actuate at 35g, while some people like heavy switches like hall effect which can actuate at 300g. Some people don't like the tactile feedback while others want a loud and clicky switch. Its mostly a matter of preference and durability. You see eventually rubber domes will get mushy after extended use while mechanical keyboard don't. Some people just want to buy one keyboard and have it feel brand new for years to come. Membrane keyboards are fine and I'd only recommend a mechanical keyboard if you want to type on something that is more comfortable for you
>>
Since apparently Razer blackwidow ultimate keyboards are apparently rip offs,

Does anyone have any recommendations for mechanical keyboards like them?

I used to use cheap keyboards, but holy shit just typing on the razer blackwidow ultimates at best buy was orgasmic. If mechanical keyboards are really like that, I need one yesterday.

You can go for either cheap:

or quality (Unfortunately the white and grey keycaps sold out)

>>
>>57642359
Is the higher quality one worth the higher price?

There seems to be only one review on the higher quality one, and, at that, a complaint about durability.

Do both suffer from durability issues?
>>
>>57642279
Okay so you're pretty much me. I went into bestbuy and played a black widow and loved it to death. So after a lot of research I'm glad I didn't buy one. In fact you can buy the same type of switches for $40 on Amazon. The Razer green switches on the black widow apparently didn't hold up after a few weeks to a month. As in keys would stop working, they would stick, etc.

Blue switches are the way to go but you can get them super cheap so just browse Amazon.
>>
>>57642852
Which one did you end up getting? I'm seeing this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Mpow-Mechanical-Keyboard-Anti-Ghosting-Switches/dp/B01K9CNIWK

And this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Switches-104-key-Customizable/dp/B01IRASQA0

Both blue switches, reasonably priced, with great reviews. Partial to the second because of 104 keys (numpad is habit of use).

I'd like to hear your opinion, though. Which keyboard did you go with and why?

Just picked up a set of taihao ABS keycaps from mechanicalkeyboards for $25

pretty excited, unfortunately they didn't have Miami.

can any anons tell me their experience with ABS caps? i've only used PBT caps since i switched to a mech board 2ish years ago

it's those type of keys? i read they were really grainy compared to regular keycaps

also Tai-Hao uses some sort of sticky coating on their keycaps. You can take it off using alcohol so its not a problem if you don't like it.
