h-how long does my hard drive have left?
>>57606137
probably not long but congrats on your future ssd purchase

I haven't paid attention to computer hardware since the last 6+ years, i don't know anything about SSDs
Is there a recommended brand to buy from?
I also can't afford a really high end drive right now
It's already dead.

people are liking the samsung evo 950, but there's cheaper stuff that'll still work, like from mushkin or hk hynix

Stop borwsing (and writing to your browser cache) and do a backup you retard.

My 5 year old vostro V130 has been making similar noises for about 3 or 4 years. I'm not alarmed by it anymore, that shitty laptop has been pronounced dead multiple times but it's somehow always coming back to life. Kind of surprising how long these things last.

Now, I'm not saying it's nothing, and you should probably worry about it,
as >>57606306 said it tactfully.

Have you checked the SMART status? Most impending failures are reflected there and can be inferred from that data.
Backup to Google Drive while contemplating what to do.
Make a live USB to install your OS of choice on your next hard drive. NOW. That covers you in case of drive death.
Windows 10 works fine without activation:

Rufus will write your .iso to USB:

Buy korean you son of a bitch american
You're already dead mate.
It might be a blessing in disguise. My harddisk recently died and I bought a ssd and man that was a huge improvement.
Any good hard drive brands for a 2TB+ drive?
Need to replace a WD drive that is now dying after 3 years. Tests perfectly on Seatools but it keeps dropping off and has a hard time starting up as it clicks a few times.

O bought a mushkin. It serves me well. Looked at the reviews and for continuous long term reading its clearly the winner.
And you need that nowadays because shitters don't know how to write applications.

It doesn't matter, just make sure the RPM is above 7200. People been saying Seagate is bad so avoid that brand. WD, Toshiba, Hitachi and HGST should be good. All drives are prone to fail so make sure you also buy a back drive when you can afford it or back up important shit on a flash drive. Always save the old drive unless you already have another copy, otherwise destroy it.
I used a 5400RPM 2TB Seagate Barracuda for 4-5 years with no issues before I had to replace it.

do you realize what you are saying
