I've been offered a PS3 that can still run Linux.
Is it worth it? Or is it severely underpowered and only useful if you have a huge amount of number crunching to do?
I have a ps3 that can still "run" Linux. Ppc only though so its shit

Its CPU isn't backdoored.

No one cares.

Offered? To buy? As a gift?
How the fuck do you want us to answer your question with such lack of detail
>>57598674
Ignore the price. What I am really asking is, is it still useful? Or is it pretty old now and modern hardware is much better at almost all tasks?
>>57598684
If it's free, take it and sell it.
Otherwise, just use a modern pc.

Perfect combination. Both have nogames.

Sure, the CPU isn't much to brag about today, but it was extremely powerful in 2006, it should be a fine server or something. Just keep in mind that the PS3 is really starved for ram and only powerPC compatible distros will work.

They aren't even worth it for number crunching they use too much power.
>>57598870
What?
>>57598883
They obviously were worth it, considering people made a server farm out of them, such as the US airforce (I think it was airforce anyway)

That was when they were new. There was a small window where the ps3 was faster than just about any consumer processor, and much cheaper than server hardware.
This contributed to Sony removing OtherOS because the PS3 was sold at a substantial loss and the people buying them in bulk obviously never bought a single game.
