Who knows more about technology, /g/ or reddit?
>>
>>57596559
Fucking /g/
We got Gentoo, Kneesocks, unlimited number of insults/uses of the word 'faggot', and more!
>>
reddit. neither has any particular person with any special insight into a topic (except maybe falcon?), and in the absence of special knowledge the winner usually goes to whichever group is just largest.
>>
>>57596559
reddit
>handful of community members know anything
>everyone repeats them word for word

/g/
>a handful of people know anything
>everyone thinks they're an expert and will argue for 2 hours about it
>>
Specific subreddits are filled with autists and experts. Don't go to blanket subreddits and definitely don't go to any default subreddits expecting anything but "reddit"

for basically any specific topic whether it's your distro, a programming language, a fucking board game, reddit has experts who are sweating in their chairs f5'ing and waiting to answer your questions for that sweet karma

source: redditor for 8 years, sue me
>>
I've only been on reddit a handful of times and have spent something like 10 years on 4chan. I have no doubts that any other website on the Internet knows more about technology than /g/. This place is full of fucking retards, not even skiddies waste their time here.
>>
the thing about reddit is that there's almost invariably a good conversation about something on the archives. if i want to see a list of good board games to look at buying, i can check /tg/ but it's more likely there's a subreddit with a few good threads.

the same is true for tech. whenever i have a question about my hackintosh build, it's possible tonyxmac86 or whatever has info, but it's almost as likely that some reddit thread will have hashed out the issue.
>>
Sadly, reddit. Though, to find better quality discussions, just like >>57596960 said, you're gonna have to stray from the defaults. Otherwise you're gonna get inane shit like "VLC is free and it doesn't have ads? WOW, they're, like, bros!". The discussion in the tech related subreddits caters to the layman more than it does to the experienced people, and is generally of lower quality. Youl'll often find an "I..know some of those words"comment upvoted to the top.

But the smaller, tech-related subreddits? The people there can be even bigger pedants than /g/, and this is kinda hard to top. People on SE can know their shit, too.

Judging reddit by its' defaults is like judging 4chan by /b/ and /pol/. Branch out.
>>
>>57597017
Branch out, and you'll find worthwhile discussion*
>>
>>57596559
Both are good.
Reddit has more people with real-life experience and know-how, because many are employed in the tech world.
/g/ has more kissless virgin autists and asocial sperglords, but there are genuine geniuses in this category.

Use both.
>>
>>57596559
>reddit
>>
>>57597102
xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
>>
>>57596559
Reddit have too strict moderation and shitty voting system. /g/ don't have moderation aside desktop shitposts and nsfw crap. Use both for better output, but don't be addict.
>>
>>57596559
They're probably on par with regards to ratios of noobs to experts but reddit has so many more users that you're likely to get your question answered by someone competent.

The further you stray away from default subs the higher quality it gets.

There's less of a sense of self-entitlement on Reddit but there's more of a Dunning-Kruger effect when it comes to giving advice.

/g/ seems to be the most reddit-accepting board on 4chan anyway.
>>
>>57597104
lel
>>
>>57597123
this is why I browse 4chan 20x more than reddit. on smaller specific subreddits there isn't a whole lot of moderation or vote brigading though. like i said earlier stay away from default subreddits and blanket subreddits. Those are filled with women and children
>>
>>57596559

Same fags on both sites, stop pretending you don't have Leddit open in the next tab
>>
>>57597017
/pol/ is actually good you bigoted leftist race baiter.
>>
>>57597017
this reads exactly like typical reddit husk speak
>>
>>57596559
Reddit may appear more knowledgeable because of the karma circlejerk (i.e. people actually try to post decent answers). Here we just tell the OP to fuck off.
>>
>>57597187
>reddit husk speak
what?
>>
>>57597154
>>57596597
these are correct
don't listen to the >i browse le reddit good sir, you need a niche sub-bacon
>>
>>57596559

I use reddit everyday, and have done for about 4-5 years, with this authority i can say that reddit knows fuck about technology, same with music
>>
>>57597275
/mu/ is possibly the worst board on the whole internet though

i'm too old to discuss music with high school kids though
>>
>>57597293
you should check their share threads, it is their saving grace
>>
If you come across an intelligent reddit response simply copy and paste it into a search engine and you'll see reddit is all about plagiarism. People on reddit literally keep wordpad document responses for X and Y, or they just look back through theirs or somebody else's post history from their profile to copy and paste a prior response.

To put it simply, Reddit is book smart. /g/ is street smart.
>>
Reddit is an amazing content aggregator. I've found myself using reddit as a term to parse results on Google more than doing traditional Googling of jumping from website to website.

I'd say /g/ is smarter than the average redditor but lots of specialists frequent reddit and that what makes it special.
>>
>>57597321
>To put it simply, Reddit is book smart. /g/ is street smart.
could you tip your fedora any harder?
>>
reddit. at least some of them have jobs.
>>
I hate Reddit as much as the next person, but when I've googled certain computer problems it's more likely that I'll see a Reddit post with the solution than seeing it in a /g/ archive.
>>
>>57597017
What is SE?
>>
>>57597431
>it's more likely that I'll see a Reddit post with the solution than seeing it in a /g/ archive.

That's because Reddit has plenty of tech support subs, while asking a tech support question on /g/ is generally haram
>>
>>57597461
Stack Exchange. A lot of people on /g/ are poking fun of them (especially the programming section of the site, which..well, they're kinda rightful to mock), but asking questions elsewhere, and the answers you receive - they can be pretty fruitful.
>>
>>57596559
Reddit hands down.
>>
>>57596559

>>
Reddit. /g/ is for fags.
>>
>>57597104

>>
>>57596576

Sadly, this is probably true.

Also, possibly even more sadly.. the tech world is filled with SJW cucks who couldn't stand 4chan for more than a second.
>>
/g/ is technology shitposting and a few generals, often centered around consumer electronics.

reddit has everything.
>>
/g/
>>
>>57596559
Reddit tb.h, /g/ is pure consumerism.
>>
>>57596576
Reddit has steve wozniak, seriosuly, look up his thread
>>
Speaking for the "technology" areas of both sites (if we treat generals here like subs), they cater to different topics.

/g/ is mostly consumer electronics which invariably means anything gaming related or smartphones (even though they have their own containment general, or sub). The other half of /g/ is centered around programming, within which distro wars, editor wars, you name it, occur. It seems like a good portion of people on /g/ are actually working in the field. Oh and obviously privacy-related matters are of /g/’s concern too.

On reddit you have r/gadgets for the consumer threads, which is why implore people posting here to go there instead, and r/programming and all it's specific subs for programming. This means r/technology has more threads on interesting topics like automation which might get pushed to the side on /g/.
>>
I don't really frequent reddit but I know for sure that it's pretty bad for posting stuff yourself. So /g/ is at least better when it comes to posting. Reading I don't know but /g/ is a lot of unfiltered shit while reddit has everything filtered by the community so I guess it depends. If you want to read the objectively accepted opinion or if you want to read a lot of different opinions with a lot of shitposting.
>>
>>57598756
>Reddit tb.h, /g/ is pure consumerism.
this. in subs like /r/sysadmin there is a shitton more professionals talking about stuff than on /g/.

Also reddits format makes stuff that seems intelligent stand out.
>>
>>57599145
/r/sysadmin is a piece of shit filled with windows retard and shills.

No. Reddit is contagious and has spread it's cancer to all the old BB forums. This, +1, /thread and all other manors of upboating on legacy forums is everywhere. It won't be long until we see Like buttons on everything and once upboated posts get moved to the top of threads it's game over.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes.

Why do you use a tripcode? It's literally pointless.

Clearly you have some sort of insecurity or issues if you're going on an anonymous imageboard and using a tripcode that specifically >>implies<< that you're a woman.

So... We can assume that you're clearly unattractive and/or have some sort of fuckery going on if you feel the need to do that. Reminds me of the women who go to online games and tell everyone they're a girl gamer... They end up being overweight cows that can't get attention in real life so they go online to get it from people desperate enough to give it to them.

You know that's not why you do it. Should have thought of a better excuse.

Post pictures of your fat ass so you can get the attention you grave so much.

>I'm not working due to some personal issues... for the past couple of months...

Reddit because /g/ is infested with /pol and consumerist shitters.
>>
Well one's a cancerous cesspool of pseudo-intellectuals and rampant faggotry, and the other one is /g/.

You know I am right, besides pushing pseudo-g content like discussions about Hillary's mail server nothing good in terms of threads comes out of you, you pathetic sexually frustrated, subhuman.

It used to be 4chan. Now it's Reddit.

/g/ has /dpt/ and I guess /wdg/ and even those are pretty bad unless you filter out quite literally EVERY tripfag. 4chan has this newfag infection of "le shitposting is the norm" on top of all of the people who spend entire threads flipping out if object-oriented is mentioned or someone doesn't want to read about some fag copying examples with a functional language for the umpteenth time. It's pretty nice and you can get some good answers for your language of choice issues if the neo-4chan/assburger/painfully depressed NEET crowd isn't active that day. It doesn't help that /g/ is just consumerism central now with the site-wide /b/pol/ leakage.

Reddit has plenty of smaller boards/forms that have actual answers for questions. There are plenty of shitty posters and boards but most of the time there's someone who can and will answer your question or someone that wrote a cool megapost about a subject you're currently working with. Their voting system is fucking stupid, though. On 4chan, truly shitty threads will mostly fall off the board. On Reddit, they'll just sit there forever and absorb minus votes or someone will use a shitty question as an opportunity to rulefag for plus votes.

>/g/
>knows about technology
/g/ is where /v/ sends people who are too clueless about video gaymen to stay on that containment board.
>>
>implying that reddit and /g/ aren't the same people.

I never thought I'd see the day that anons admitted to being reddit users.
>>
>>57596597
So both are shit? Seems pretty accurate.
>>
>>57605867
anyone on /g/ worth their weight also browses reddit

Uh, yeah. Your secret clubhouse isn't that special. I browse both, but niche subreddits are miles better than anything on /g/. I only come here for laughs, as I'm sure most others do.
>>
>>57607424
yes, niche subreddits, and ONLY those

Also

>People follow whatever is highly rated on rated
>People follow whatever is frequently and consistently memed on 4chan

Honestly fuck both of these shit sites. I'm leaving forever. See you guys tomorrow.

I like some of Reddit, but I hate the fact that they have a voting system. Usernames are fine because if you want to shitpost you can just use an alt account, but fuck their upboat bullshit. Wish there was a a site with reddit's structure but without voting systems.
