Updates are handled awfully, and not because of "muh forced reboot" boogeyman. Aside from security patches, it doesn't do small incremental updates. Everything that isn't a simple security patch will essentially pull a full reinstall of a new Windows build on you.
What I assume is a side effect of this causes it to reset my fucking Nvidia driver settings on every Windows update.
It also resets my fucking audio driver settings.
Not to mention my fucking default browser and photo viewer.

Aside from that, there's the inconsistent UI design. I have nothing against the flat theme, I actually prefer it over the less messy turd that was Windows 7. But why in the fuck do I have 3 different right click menus ?

If you can ignore these, Windows 10 is okay I guess. It's basically Windows 8.1 with better integration for the "modern" apps (they don't have to be fullscreen).

> High CPU use by taskhost.exe when Windows 8.1 user name contains "user"
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3053711

> Symptoms
In Windows 8.1, when the user account name contains the word "user", intermittently you will find the process taskhost.exe keeps consuming high CPU percentage.

> Cause
This is a problem in the component DFPCommon.dl in Windows 8.1.

> Resolution
To resolve the issue, do not create a user account contains the string "user" on the computer.

a) it's not outdated unless you say it is

c) usb 3 support can be resolved with driver
>>
>>57584378
It's outdated because it's seven fucking years old. The fact that it doesn't have native USB 3 or NVMe support--support for modern technology--indicates that it's outdated. It doesn't even support UEFI natively for fuck's sake.

NVMe = non-volatile memory express, used in M.2 SSDs.

I use Windows 7 on both my gaming desktop & laptop.

I tried out Windows 10 but it feels way too bloated and generally a little buggier. Plus all the privacy concerns so I reverted. If someone makes a simple quick way to disable all privacy infringing aspects of Windows 10 then maybe I'll come back to it but the truth is there isn't anything wrong with Windows 7 that would make me switch.

Windows 10 looks like something made by brainless monkeys from the marketing department.
95% of the development effort goes towards showing ads in more and more parts of the OS. It's like a constant whack-a-mole to keep that shit at bay.

If you're dedicated and have enough time you can disable all that nonsense, so it's not the end of the world.
But after that you're still left with an unfinished buggy product and you have to ask yourself why bother.

Either 7 or 8.1 work just fine and can last for a couple more years easily. In the mean time hopefully 10 gets out of beta and becomes more usable.

It was supposed to die because Microsoft originally planned to make every Windows 7 device upgrade to Windows 10. The fact that this was their original intention indicates that Windows 7 will not receive extended support like Windows XP did, regardless of your personal opinions about Windows 7.

Wanna know how I know 7's support extension isn't gonna happen? Microsoft said it's not supporting older OSes with Skylake and newer CPUs.
>>
>>57586093
No, it was not, if you don't understand why, then you don't know how EULA works.
You know that 7 runs just fine on Kabby Lake, right?
>>
>>57586132
It was their intention because they literally pushed an update that attempted to force Windows 7 and Windows 8 users to upgrade to Windows 10. Stop dicking around. I get you opted out of the update, but it doesn't change the reality of the situation.

EULA means fuck all in business, especially when the end-user isn't a corporation that pays Microsoft real money to run its software.

"Just fine" is not the same thing as perfectly. There are several features that Windows 7 cannot take advantage of. Microsoft is ending support for Skylake and newer CPUs on Windows 7 by July 2017.
>>
>>57586186
>It was their intention
No, they can't change the update policy on the fly. And the update policy binds Microsoft legally sto support Win7 until 2020 no matte what.
IIt will get extended support though, due to its market share for once, and due to some laws in certain countries which will frce them to extend it with at least a year. But I'm sure will get extended with more than just a year.

>EULA means fuck all in business
In which shithole? Any corporation could sue Microsoft for false advertising. And false advertising it's a serious accusation, especially when coming from another company.

Comfy Windows 7 user reporting in.
>>
>>57586279
How many fucking times do I have to tell you that Microsoft isn't going to pull another XP in terms of extended support? Companies currently have a little over three years to get their shit together and fuck off. Microsoft also has a vision in place, in which Windows 10 holds the largest market share. They're not going to go soft this time around since they literally attempted to force people to upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft also isn't going to give a fuck about laws in countries that aren't America.

The fact is that Windows 10 is going to become the most popular OS whether you like it or not. Skylake and later users have to upgrade to Windows 10 by July 2017 or just give up support. They've already announced their intentions far in advance. You can't just say they're going to extend support because it's what you want. They'r not going to extend support for Windows 7.

Jan 1st 2016. Or, if you want to go up to Septembe (that is until MS started pushing rollouts), all you have to hide are these.
If you want the "security only" rollouts, they are available for download, these should be safe (read: probably).
>>
>>57589705

Well, thanks for the reply.

I´m "making" my own Win7 DVD. I want to install some updates (security & hotfixes) and delete some trash. I'm skipping those related to Telemetry/GWX. But I don't have info about the good ones but Telemetry/W10 upgrade related.

I've read something about the rollups, and definitively, I'll skip them.

Also, I only have updates until march/2015 ready to be integrated.

Any other advice?

...And sorry for the bad engrish.
>>
>>57589912

Yup.

There are updates until 2019 with this:

Open Notepad and create a new file.
Add Below given code to it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady]
"Installed"=dword:00000001

>>57589950
Right now those are the only ones that MS still sends right now. If you want a list of all the bad updates (includes different versions of the same) here is the full on, to my knowledge:

get-hotfix -id KB971033,KB2902907,KB2922324,KB2952664,KB2976978,KB2977759,KB2990214,KB3012973,KB3014460,KB3015249,KB3021917,KB3022345,KB3035583,KB3044374,KB3050265,KB3050267,KB3065987,KB3068708,KB3072318,KB3075249,KB3075851,KB3075853,KB3080149,KB3123862,KB3150513,KB3139923,KB3081954

Yeah, the regullar rollups should be avoiuded. Debatable about the security only ones though, I presonally won't install those either.
>>
>>57590322
But you can't cherrypick updates anymore, can you. Since October it's all or nothing. At least you can still turn updates off. In a year or two they'll surely disable disabling updates, if you block then on network level windows will bitch about it and give you a week or two to update, refusing to boot eventually.
>>
>>57589230
>using Windows at all
>>
>>57590408
Updates past that date, yes. The best you can do is to manuall ydownload the security only rollups if you need them. But beore that date you can opt whichever updates to install. If you want to keep a local copy of them, use WSUS offline
http://www.wsusoffline.net/
>>
>>57590322

I compared those KBs with a list that I made w/diferent info from some sites, and only those weren't in my list: KB3072318 & KB3139923

KB3072318 Seems to be an W8 update and KB3139923 It seems breaks windows installer if KB3072630 does not exist on the system.

Anyway, I would skip them.

>>57590532

I'm using Windows Update Downloader to get updates and skipping manually what I don't want.

Does WSUS skips those related to telemetry?
>>
>>57583819
best thing is they want to kill the old one and replace it completly with the new dumbed down version
>>
>>57590689
It downloads all and then you can remove them. It may have a filter option, but I have not used it, I dowloaded all the updates at the end of September and that's about it. My system has been updated normally via WU up to that date, and those updates manually hidden..

the problem is that they are so visually clashing that it's hilarious. Microsoft didn't put in the effort to upgrade everything from the earlier versions of windows, so it just feels like you're using windows 7 with some weird metro interface trying to take over some of your apps... but not all of them.

Microsoft have been making operating systems for a long time and they should be producing much higher quality releases, if they're going to do an aesthetic overhaul they need to do the entire system. as it stands, visually speaking, this operating system has such a fucking identity crisis that it's unbelievable that it was put out by legit Microsoft the multi-billion dollar company and not someone in their garage. It's absolute garbage, an absolute fucking mess and you know it but you will just blindly defend Microsoft because you're a fanboy.
