I have a bit of an issue that I'm pretty sure you guys would know a lot about.
My internet connection (Normally 60+ Mb/s Download, 5+ Mb/s Upload) will ALWAYS, like clockwork, start cutting in and out at night around midnight.
It starts by going super slow, spiking back up to normal, and then cutting out for a half second.
Then, it will reconnect, but be slow as crap for a bit, spike back to normal, and then slowly drop back down to nothing.
This happens EVERY night. On the fucking dot at midnight.
Do you guys have any ideas as to what might be causing this? Someone with a super seedbox going at night in my area?
Few facts that may help:
>Technicians from my ISP are over here almost weekly
>So far, they have replaced EVERYTHING in my house
>That mean every cable under my house, running to me from the road, and my modem are brand new.
>Also just replaced my router two nights ago with a pretty good one.
>This is still happening.
Seriously, any ideas?
>>57579597
It's back to normal now.
>>57579602
On the decline.
Youtube and reCAPTCHA are taking assloads of time to load.
>>57579602
Dropping deep now
>>57579686
Dropped completely, fought back up a bit, then dropped again.
>>57579699
Was completely back to normal, but only for about two seconds. Dropping again.
>>57579686
>litteral bytes per second
Holy shit, son. What kind of shit ISP do you have?
If it was happening all the time, I would say it's interference on the line, but for it to only happen at specific times sounds like they're throttling you. (Which doesn't really make sense, because if they were, they'd be doing it ALL the time, not just after midnight.)
>>57579729
This actually does look a LOT like throttling. Like, this is the spitting image of it.
>>57579729
>>57579746
OP here
Alright, then I have a question.
Is it possible to be throttled by anything other than your ISP?
I've specificlly asked a good friend of mine that works at one of their call centers. He said they only throttle people that transfer an exorbitant amount of data per month. (Like, over 1TB)
>>57579810
Not unless someone's DDOSing you every night
Haha wouldn't put it past some people to have people ddosing them every night.
>>57580574
Wouldn't my ISP be able to see this happening, though?
Can't even run a damn speed test now
>>57579810
>not uploading 1TB/week
>>57580695
Here's what the test looks like when it's running. That's a wave-y as fuck line right there.
>>57580722
Still won't let me finish the test, and the waves are even worse.
>>57580732
Well... this is new.
The test is stuck here. It's just counting down by 0.01 each second. Test won't complete, but it won't end either. It's seriously just dropping by 0.01 every second.
>>57580722
>That sharp as fuck drop for less than 0.01 seconds that just seems to come out of fucking nowhere.
Ok. This just got interesting. Literally nothing in the world could fucking cause what you're experiencing unless there was some super illegal shit going down in your area.
Like, I'm talking multiple homes stealing signal.
But... your ISP would see this happening.
>>57580732
>Signal going in and out VERY rapidly
>>57580742
>Signal stopping for minutes at a time
Alright... there's something going down.
Here's what I think is happening:
First, there could be something going on with the node that supplies your area. This is unlikely, because other people would be reporting that by now and things would be solved WAY before two years of complaints came in.
Second, there, again, could be some illegal shit going down. But, again, it wouldn't be happening for two fucking years. Just doesn't make sense. Your ISP would have found out by now.
Is this only affecting you specificlly? Anyone else in your area complaining?
>>57580742
Still just counting down, for those of you that want an update.
>>57580794
>First, there could be something going on with the node that supplies your area.
Possible, but unlikely.
After me calling in so much, I actually got to talk to a superviser. He put my node on a 24-hour watch list and had some techs take a look at it. Everything seems fine, according to them.
>Is this only affecting you specificlly
Yes.
According to the techs I talk to, my Modem will be offline while both of my neighbors will be online and running perfectly fine.
>>57580833
>According to the techs I talk to, my Modem will be offline while both of my neighbors will be online and running perfectly fine.
Well, shit. That rules out illegal activity.
>>57580839
I was kinda hoping it was that simple.
"Hey, ISP guys, it looks like someone's stealing shit."
"Oh, well look at that. We'll handle it."
Nothing in life can ever be simple.
>>57580853
Tried a diffrent tester.
This is some bullshit.
>>57581012
>Download is fine
>upload is shit
MAKES NO SENSE
If it happens at midnight it's probably DHCP issues. Are you on a dynamic or static IP address?
>>57581082
>Are you on a dynamic or static IP address
Static, according to this.
>>57581108
Is it possible to call your ISP and request a new IP?
>>57581194
Well, I'm all for trying anything, but will it help? What's your reasoning?
Would it help if I changed this? This is my router settings.
What would I change it to?
>>57581218
Forgot pic
>>57581218
>>57581225
What the hell is "Bridge Mode"?
>>57581240
Here's all the settings
>>57581218
>>57581225
>>57581240
>>57581255
That's just your router. That won't affect your modem at all.
OP here
Called my ISP's help line at 3-fucking-AM.
IT'S BEEN THE FUCKING ROUTER THE WHOLE TIME.
I never thought to plug directly into my modem. That solved everything.
He also told me what the problem with my router might be. Something to do with the channel being set to Auto. He had me switch it over to 11 - 2.462GHz.
While download speed is still slow, It's fucking STABLE. (And the upload speed is perfect!)
Any ideas on how to fix the download speed? I'm on hold with linksys right now.
>>57581663
fucks sake
I want to be surprised, or angry at your retardation
but this is exactly the sort of shitty solution it always is every time
>>57581694
Alright, so how do I fix my download speed?
Seriously. If you have any idea on what to do here, please tell me what to do.
Please understand. I've had this problem for TWO YEARS.
Please. Please. PLEASE tell me how to fix it.
>>57581754
wait so what's actually the problem now?
>>57581778
Download speed is slow while upload speed is good.
See here:
>>57581663
I'm supposed to have 60MB/s Download.
>>57581791
Ever considered that an ISP's "up to 60mb" claim is really "up to" debate?
>>57581914
Nope, because I test at 60+MB/s when I test when plugged directly into the modem.
>>57581922
so the down speed you're looking it is basically just wifi being shit?
try kill the mixed network mode.
>>57581922
Pic related as proof
>>57581937
Hold up... what is this media prioritization shit?
>>57581957
Well, I'll be fucking damned.
There is is. I'm an idiot for trusting default setup settings in the first place.
tl;dr: OP is once again a retard who doesn't take a look around before pestering /g/
>>57581968
Can confirm.
Working perfectly now.
Two fucking years, $170 dollars, and a lot of headaches. It was the fucking router the whole time...
