It fucking sucks, because of course it does.

It's a cross between a Cintiq and a monitor with the downsides of both and the advantages of neither.

Microsoft jumps on a trend a decade too late and completely misses the point of it and why people would want to use it with billions of dollars of R&D down the drain. Color me surprised.

So who is actually going to be buying these if they're not suitable for a professional work?

the sd card reader on my 2011 macbook pro stopped working after about 5 uses, now all it does is scratch the shit out of anything that is inserted and not read

Sorry it's not as comfy as the exposed cinder block of your family's basement.
>>
>>57576459
He's basically a Microsoft employee. The lack of tilt and rotation and the lower pressure sensitivity of N-Trig combined with it registering marks before it even touches the screen and the jitter problem make this not suitable for professional use.
>>
>>57576216
What did you expect? The price is suspiciously low.
>>
Why the fucvk is everyone in this thread overplaying the review

>It's so SHIT
>Un fucking usable

The video had minor gripes at best.
>>
>>57576857
See how their wrist never touch the surface when they're drawing?
That's because M$ doesn't disable the touchscreen when the pen is in use.

That alone makes it unusable for a lot of people.
>>
>>57576857
The registering before you even touch the screen is a pretty big deal. Like the guy said, it's pretty much a deal breaker. And that's not even taking into account the other issue N-Trig has. Really the only advantage it has over Wacom is the reduced parallax but that's not enough to outweigh the multiple cons.

What the fuck are you going on about? My SP2 and S3 both disable touchscreen when the pen is being used.

Can someone tell me whos the targeted audience here? I work with designers and a few of them had some how absolute shit it is compared to a wacom tablet. Only good thing they had to say was the screen and as for the puck they just said who the fuck wants any object on their screen when drawing.

You could get an iPad pro and a 2016 touchbar MBP for much less than this shit and enjoy the continuity and Apple ecosystem shit. Why would anyone buy this? A Windows experience with some tilting all-in-one.

Literally why?

>>
>>57576999

If Microsoft was going to make this ultra super high end professional artist PC why didn't they partner with Wacom for a better digitizer? Samsung did it with the Note 12 Pro tablet, so it's not like Wacom doesn't partner.
>>
>>57577747

This. It can't even detect tilt. Which an iPad can.

Do most people go bare palm when they use these?

When I use my Cintiq I have always used a half glove thing called a "smudge guard" like pic related because I really love the glide feeling it gives my hand, slides over the surface like ice. Gives incredibly freedom of hand movement.

If I put my bare skin to the Cintiq screen I do not get any glide, my skin tends to stick and it makes drawing a nightmare.

Here is your friendly reminder that Microsoft getting in to the hardware market was the biggest corporate mistake in their corporate history.

What the fuck You're talking about. Norm is fucking love Microsoft and always give good review for the surface line. You can see he's using a Surface book in other podcast videos.
>>
>>57576857

The biggest gripe is that it's innovative for the wrong reasons. The drivers and software are shit. That's a pretty big deal. This product is absurd for all the obvious reasons, touch screen is a fucking meme, it's a meme on your phone, it's a meme on your laptop it's a meme on a fucking desktop.

Microsoft had to do it because coming up with new concepts and designs and expecting the industry to implement them was either a no-go or a shitfest.

Consider the Surface machines to be reference designs. "*This* is the fucking baseline of how we expect our ideas to be properly done." Until now, some bargain computer maker could do a shitty implementation and ruin the public's opinion of its utility.

APPLEL BTFO
>>
>>57578182

So you think it's better that you get half baked hardware ideas and half released software than the alternative which is shitty computer companies releasing sub-par products? How is that even an argument? If you specify correct minimum system requirements and not fucking lie about what your software can run on like what happened with WinME then who's fault is that?
>>
>>57578280
MS wanted 512MB minimum for Vista. Manufacturers pressured them to lower it to 256MB.

Cintiqs have that too but it seems to actually be useful because it has buttons. I guess you have to have something like it if you want to compete nowadays.

iphone 4 replacement - lost cell signal whenever skin touched the black plastic bar on the side of the phone
ipad 1 - kept forgetting wifi passwords

Pretty damn good reviews for a first gen.

Lincucks are just mad that they are stuck with their 2004 thinkpads and that diaper wearing dog editor.
>>
Pretty good review, reaffirms what I expected. Hopefully the pen drivers and / or photoshop get updated to really support the thing down the line. Those are the things that cause the errant marks while hovering, not the hardware itself.
>>

lol it looks like one of those chinese cintiq knock-off models.

why don't microsoft know how to design?
>>

it's pretty common knowledge that n-trig is shit. it's baffling that microsoft partnered with them to make a device aimed at artists.
