Bro, it downloads the songs from the service, no recording audio like other guys use.

>create a free Deezer account

> download this program https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7T5kB65KcW_aEpENnM2YW1XdXc/view?pref=2&pli=1

its a basic lightweight program, enter the Deezer URL to your playlist and it downloads all the songs in that playlist

just try it!

Users of what.cd were the ones to regularly buy merch, concert tickets, bandcamp albums for indie bands, and pay for subscriptions to music services. People who love music.

Bands even shared their stuff purposefully on what.cd to build hype and spread the word on their music.

They just killed the single best library of rare music on earth. There is no other website that had the catalog of rare albums in multiple formats.

There's a nippon jazz and swing band that I was able to finally listen to because of what.cd, and then I went and bought merch and albums internationally because I loved them so much. That wouldn't have happened without that library.

Was any of the "lost" music on there actual good music, or was it all incomprehensible noise and royalty free ukulele with some cuck singing over it like what half of SoundCloud is like? I'm not a music enthusiast, so my opinion probably won't mean shit, but I have been on SoundCloud for some time and I've been to several underground concerts in my area, and I'd say 90% of the music there is really forgettable because most of these bands just emulate existing sounds instead of making any innovations. So when people are making a big deal over how supposedly great What.cd's selection was, I can't help but think that if you really like that kind of thing, you can probably just pick up FL Studio or an actual instrument, record some tracks with it that try to copy what kind of music you usually got from What.cd, and it'll be indistinguishable from all these lost albums.

It was just a question of time. Private trackers are golden mine of personal data. Everything they store goes beyond plausible deniability and it's even worse since people actually paid to seed huge amount of data and actively uploaded any stuff they could get their hands on. This is the endgame for any tracker that prides itself on near-impossible admission, with a userbase that brags about said-admission policies, because you make yourself a huge fucking target due to the exclusive nature of everything, creating the image of being an end-all music tracker, i.e. something that the fed would LOVE to get their hands on

The autists who prided themselves on this environment are of course blaming Shkreli on IRC (irc.varmag.com, #var if you wanna watch post-What discussion/salt), despite the fact that there was an honest-to-god What merch store on the site, so good job on selectively-enforcing those Fight Club rules

What got hyper-retarded last month in terms of new invites, and disabled accounts suspected of being invited via other private trackers that weren't in the What bubble of exclusivity, shitcanned at least half of the people doing the inviting, and made it a rule that anyone inviting via a not-What private tracker will also be shitcanned. I lost my account of 2 years this way despite having a great ratio, so the message was made clear on the type of environment/users What wanted, enjoyment be damned

Waffles isn't dead, but the higher-ups are adjusting their hosting issue as a response to What, so don't expect it come back anytime soon. There's planning to cater to jaded ex-What users, and a possible image revamp to maintain a What-esqe quality in terms of seeding and uploads (something Waffles was iffy about) without the big brother aspect

>near impossible admission.
Your a fucking idiot.
What merch wasn't something that was going to create mass appeal either. The fight club rules keep the heat and normies away, but they don't actually make it "exclusive" or "cool" that was never the point. It's just like with usenet and even when /b/ did it. If random fucking dudebros around campus know it. Then it's a problem. So shut the fuck about it.

I still to this day don't bring up 4chan irl for these reasons, or approve of major publications talking about it. But i have no illusion it isn't super duper mainstream. Private trackers like any form of piracy simply come and go due to the legal nature and lack of possible sustainable business model associated with that. In a few years there will be another established site. May be better, may be worse. But it wilp exist. And it too will be shut down. Same nature with publics as well, or shit like limewire or napster.
>>
>>57576697
Waffles users have always tried to bill themselves as a relaxed What, so for all the revamps they're teasing on IRC, I have faith that they won't go full-on Hitler in terms of seeding. There's a difference between offering incentives for sustained seeding (points, seeding time multipliers, etc.) and making it mandatory to seed under threat of a ban, which in turn creates a mindset that only caters to seedboxfags, because despite what What believes, not everyone wants to pay for seedbox hosting, or has a spare computer they can run in the living room

The ACTUAL cancer of What lies in the autists who believe that there's no point in sharing obscure/rare shit unless it's on some super-secret tracker, and in turn, will NEVER share outside of it due to the self-satisfaction that they're some amazing Illuminati archivist, so if the site goes, so does the content, and they'll NEVER re-upload to something like IPT, or even Waffles, because they can no longer have that exclusive feeling

The fact that staff and users are comparing themselves to the Library of Alexandria is the most infuriating shit, because they never had any intention of preserving or sharing this stuff in the first place, had rules against sharing content outside of What, and would somehow always know when something exclusive had been shared with the plebs, because there are people who watch public, semi-private, and hella private trackers for suspect content. What somehow has sway with users on the SA and Lue trackers I'm on, and that bugs me to no end

I plan to re-upload obscure shit onto Waffles if and when it comes back, because What completely sucked the fun out of sharing music with an emphasis on quality

Yes because /pol/ becoming mainstream really helped 4chan.
And limewire and Napster really benefitted from mainstream appeal. Or average drooly is fine with a 32kbps limewire rip, they can't tell the difference, don't care about the difference, will never upload properly and never seed.

If you think these people are of the mindset and nature where they're doing this in the name of preservation to where they're willing to share with EVERYONE if it's an option, you're delusional. Most of the content will never leave What and What splinters out of pride and arrogance
>>
>>57577064
Why should i give a shit you autist?
I care about results.
Would you rather no one uploaded it?
I think most SCENE people are complete fucking faggots. And in movies and musix i laugh them off for their horrible rips, but in vidya, someone needs to beat super duper DRM 3000. So i don't care about their stupid epeen reasons, i care about them cracking so I'll feed their ego or w.e.. If an exclusive tracker makes these people upload I'll happily participate. Besides the Gazelle UI was the best, and the CQ is amazing. What was the best source of music, from library, quality, ease of use and you name it. These autists contributes to that.
>>
>>57577064
>>57577117
Also yes. It's not like they drm protected their uploads. Seeders have no reason not to share it if they can. No tracker is going to enforce what exclusivity at this point. Does anyone have access to this archive? https://archive.org/details/whatcdcrawl

I'd like to create a tool to help migrate What.CD's index and swarms to a new tracker. Losing all those vinyl rips and recordings would be a real shame.

My thought:
- Host a list of all what.cd torrents from archived metadata.
- If you were seeding any of the torrents, you can run a script to connect to the new tracker, or enable DHT + PEX.
- In the new tracker case, the site simply marks each torrent "migrated" when it gains at least one seeder.
- If the pure DHT + PEX model, the site polls every torrent, looking for seeders with DHT enabled, and marks the torrent "migrated" when it finds one.

Then at least we'll know what we lost.

No, but screenshots of your current seeding hoard in your client of choice with your up/down speeds (ALSO showing that DHT, PEX, and LPD are disabled), along with screenshots of your ratios in other trackers were key parts of the interview that most people wouldn't think to include. People who keep saying UM THE INTERVIEW IS FUCKING EASY WHAT WAS NEVER IMPOSSIBLE TO GET INTO forget that beyond the quiz (http://pastebin.com/9aQXmRyQ), you need your other torrenting history as well, and there's a lot of hidden shit that can disqualify you if you don't know before

Beyond being rejected for client-side shit, which could include using an outdated client, a client the What admins didn't like (they're like /g/ in that Tixati triggers them), or using restricted ports, being part of a tracker that "doesn't count" could also get you rejected, even if you've uploaded a bunch of shit and have a great ratio. IPT was one of those in their final days, and anything in the KAT-realm of public trackers usually ended your interview on the spot

Why do people think piracy is all about free stuff? That's not what it's solely about. Everyone for the most part weighs the pros and cons and for many piracy is worth the effort even if you pay a little for something in return. I still pay for usenet. It used to be free access one had with their ISP but then fell out of use as things became more of a monopoly here in the states. I pay a little per year and get massive benefits over what I would get normally. Shows release early in another region or country. Commercials on vidya's are cut out for you already. You can demo a new music album before buying. Same can be done with video games. Was it over hyped? Yes. Dodged that bullet. I already pay monthly fees for streaming services among other things. I'd say I purchase more products because I can try before I buy in many cases.

The powers that be or Jews just want to control the entire process of how you get these products. It was never about losing money or theft. It is about quality of service with them. They can't compete so they shut it down.

However faggots like you confuse it for some form of eltism. Your original charge was that I have only been using private trackers for 2-3 years. While that is untrue, it is clearly not the case that in that time someone would need to "lurk moar" as if they couldn't understand the ratio upload rules or whatever the fuck.
Much in the same way that while i have been on this site much longer, i don't consider myself better than someone who has only been here 2-3 years. They clearly don't need to lurk more at that point, so any "newfag" treatment is either fair meming or eltism from faggots like you i imagine.
Hence whether you realise it or not you are using a pathetic sense of eltism stipulating you are better than people simply because you have been using torrents longer. Ironically this just makes it more sad they use private trackers and you do not.

>All "fucking newfag!" arguements claim elitism.
It has always been frowned on this site when people can't even do basic research, I guess being so enclosed in your /ptg/ circlejerk never let you know about this
>They clearly don't need to lurk more at that point
If you don't know basic stuff then you didn't actually lurk at all
>Quality content. Also pretty sure What had higher QC than any other music tracker...
It did not, another proof of how you "lurked", probably just by idling around and jumping on the pyramids or whatever was the circlejerk of the moment
Pedro's had much higher QC than whats, whats didn't even had standardized tag criteria, much less proper artwork criteria, and QC would dip so low people would just upload transcodes that would become highly popular

Just stop posting, at least read the wiki to learn the most basic about trackers, all of this is on the private tracker page, literally
>>
>>57581961
>comparing dealing with autistic staff and members to board lurking
Just stop. WCD had the worst ratio system and literally forced you to get a seedbox while neglecting less popular torrents.

Like i will take torrenting tips from fucking /g/. /ptg/ is already the bane of my existnce. Public tracker fags can only be worse.

I don't even understand what you are trying to pejoratively call me new at at this point? Fucking semi private trackers? Yes. I admit it, i used bakabt a bit foe whatever shitty reason and Rutracker for now, (probably will move to usenet actually) and i will fuck off from them as soon as the music tracker scene gets its shit together again.

Also pedro is a fucking lossless tracker how can they QC rips you fucking retard?
>>57582008
I mean that's debatable and i do prefer a seed time bp system. But i never found too much shit unseeded, if it was i would just need to grab another format, and I never had a seedbox.

Still it's irrelevant to the point I made.

QC stands for quality control you retard

>Then you knew what a semi private tracker is, or you are so dumb you couldn't even tell bakabt was semiprivate despite the HUEG "BakaBT is not a private tracker" disclaimer
Yes i always knew what they are and that they existed. Again, what's your point? I am self admittedly new, or at least inexperienced in using them. Like for example i have no idea why they exist now. If you aren't required to seed, and anyone can just make an account what's the point of requring an account just to leech?

>Calling it FLAC shows how little you know about audio compression
Calling the free lossless audio codec by it's name shows that I don't know anything about audio compression? As in the uncompressed files we are talking about here right? That statement is like saying.
>refering to the container of this Blu ray remux as MKV clearly shows how little he knows about encoding, something evidently not done to this file.
Though i will also admit i am not an audiophile, don't know the most about that or snake oil shit. I never say flac as anything more than a purer source for doing your own encodes. Something i don't do.
>>

>Calling the free lossless audio codec by it's name shows that I don't know anything about audio compression? As in the uncompressed files we are talking about here right? That statement is like saying.
A FLAC is a FLAC regardless of source m8, even if it's transcoded from a lossy source
What you're looking for is material that hasn't been tampered with, which in case of Redbook can be easily verified with CTDB and AR
Oh wait, they enforce neither in what, I forgot
> I never say flac as anything more than a purer source
Literally a snake oil assumption
Which takes me back to why you never cared about uploading anything to what, unless what relaxed criteria that much
>>
>>57582259
>A FLAC is a FLAC regardless of source m8, even if it's transcoded from a lossy source
I think you took me too literally I'm afraid. an X is an X is an X. is an expression. What I meant was that an encode for example, can have varying quality. you can have to encodes from the same source with completely different quality. They can even have the same theoretical bitrate, and file size. But one can be high quality while the other sounds like ass. This is not the case with a lossless conversion, when working with the same source anyone will produce the same FLAC, hence a Flac is a Flac is a Flac. A complete retard could do it really. Thus there is less need for QC, you just need to verify the source. if you think What didnt do QC, you are just flatout a fucking retard.

>Literally a snake oil assumption
A) not sure you know what snake oil is.
B) I imagine that is one of the main uses. an encode of an encode is yiffy tier retardation. whenever encoding stay as close to source as possible. That is what I would see the main use of FLAC being. for actual listening you can't tell the difference.
>>
>>57582337

You can't know a FLAC actually isn't a transcode unless you have a way to verify it, which you apparently don't know what it means
Assuming a FLAC will be a from a lossless source because someone says so or the retarded spectrogram what used to judge rips shows the shitty criteria what enforced
Also, do you believe I don't know what a transcode is? And a few gens of transcoding won't be easily discernible, which was proven on what itself by trolls (and had been proven on a Hydrogen Audio public listening test quite some years ago)
>Thus there is less need for QC, you just need to verify the source. if you think What didnt do QC, you are just flatout a fucking retard.
What barely did QC, literally the main reason why Pedro exists

god damn autists in here

it's fucking music, just get spotify or itunes music it is cheap as fuck. now other shit like games is a concern. there are no easy cheap alternatives for thousands of games. bcg shutting down was way worse
>>
>>57582375

What a fucking cuck you are
>>
>>57582369
>You can't know a FLAC actually isn't a transcode unless you have a way to verify it, which you apparently don't know what it means
It would actually be a lossless conversion of a transcode.

As an aside obviously this would be a concern for someone who wants to later transcode. but from an end user standpoint, music is for listening to, not looking at. If you cant tell a difference by sound then it doesn't matter.
most of What's userbase was using it for endpoint consumption, thus it's useless.
So I can't say how well it's FLACs stood up to fancy visual checks, but I can assure you they did enforce QC on transcodes. I am sure they were not as prolific in verifying flacs as Pedro however, due to the different natures of the trackers.

> And a few gens of transcoding won't be easily discernible
sure if you are ripping a quality source. but it doesn't cost you anything to get the purer source, so why practice bad habits?
I am more of a video guy than an audio guy, so things may be different.

>RuTracker gets a sudden hunch that shit may go down
>some people already have the complete site archived, and other people made a database copy within 1 or 2 days
>everyone knows that sites getting fucked is inevitable, so they always prepare contingency

>what.cd starts getting suspicious and this lasts for a month
>nobody has the hunch or instinct to create a backup, archive, and database mirror
>site users and staff are "too good to fail" and their vanity incidentally goes to fuel a great stupidity and fuels a big loss

Just proves what.cd is filled with stupid people.
If what.cd had the intelligence to look at the bigger picture, they'd have a rule to release torrent uploads into the public space a set time after an upload. That way two things would happen:
1. There would be backups of rarities in case shit ever got fucked (nothing in this world lasts for eternity).
2. The high standard and quality obsession of the site's culture, the only positive thing about the site, would have a ripple effect and get projected onto the wider public scene, thus elevating it.
Or at the very least they'd have mirrors.

Instead, what you got is a huge epic fail in the truest meaning of the words.
Because of what? Secret club complex? Vanity?
Can't say i feel sorry for the whole collective.
On the contrary, let this be a lesson to them since they let their egos get the best of them.
In a way, it is a good thing that this happens.
Serves as a lesson to other sites as well.

Such smugness and unwarranted sense of intelligence is what lead to what.cd losing everything instead of having backups.

All they can do now to make themselves feel better is say how rutracker and such are shit, oblivious to the fact that nothing is as shit as a site that doesn't exist anymore and doesn't even have a backup.
