Why would you still use Ubuntu when Solus exists?
It ships with a much nicer DE and performs much better.

Solus doesn't have this problem

>>57556813
Look it up, it's honestly an amazing distro. Built from scratch too, so none of that Debian bloat.
>>
Just what ubuntu needed, NOT.

Next step will be the ubuntu voice assistant and ubuntu cloud 2 (since the first ubuntu service cloud was a failure and was shut down).
>>
>>57556871
solus is like the elementary os of virgin Arch user.

It is a mix between gnome 3 and classic gnome desktop lacking most features. Seriously XFCE is x1000 better than the budgie desktop.

It kind of looks like elementary os with a taskbar on the top panel and no dock.

If you want a serious linux experience try linux mint or ubuntu with normal unity not unity 8.

Except they're all slower than Solus.
You can change the DE in Solus. They even have a MATE version now.
>>
>>57557118
>Except they're all slower than Solus.

I would rather wait 0.5 extra seconds everytime I open an application rather than spend a whole afternoon or weekend downloading drivers and researching forums just to play a DVD on my laptop.

It is not worth it.
I have an intel i5 processor m8, ubuntu runs pretty fast on it.
>>
>>57556724
>unity

>>
>>57557217
I dont understand you guys.

Unity runs fast is full of handy features no other DE has like global menu, HUD menu, window spread, etc and yet it is pretty minimalist.

Why dont you guys like it?
>>
>>57557198
You do realise solus works just as well, if not better than Ubuntu?

I have an i5 2420m laptop, switching to solus resulted in a noticeable performance gain and everything worked without needing to configure anything.

Only change I had was to move the taskbar to the bottom of the screen instead of the top.
>>
>>57557265
I get your point BUT even thought solus might be faster than ubuntu, ubuntu is much easier to use.

It has better community support , packages, etc
>>
>>57556792

tried budgie on my ubuntu machine, nothing worth of switching away from XFCE.

Please elaborate.

Ubuntu definitely has a larger community and more software in the repos, but solus devs are much more hands on with the community with helping solve issues. Also pic related.

maybe, but i'm used to XFCE and never had problems with it. no reason to switch.
>>
>>57557679
Just as functional, just as easy to customize, uses less system resources.

That last point matters to me because my HTPC is running Solus MATE on an old Intel atom.

>>57557644
Fair enough. Most people would just use the software centre though. Solus is aimed at the people who want something easy to use/just werks otb.

I love that there is so many solus shills these days.

What is the launcher like?
Like how does it compare to KDE (pic related)
I don't want to depend on a mouse for simple tasks.

Is there a battery widget?
I would like to see the battery percentage in the panel without clicking on anything, is that possible?

How is the window manager?
Do I have to script basic functions like quick tiling or do I just have to assign a new hotkey?

>I love that there is so many solus shills these days.
No, it's just one person trying to get people to use his distro so that it's not completely worthless in his resume.

Seriously, don't bother. This distro is obviously going to get completely abandoned by it's developer in a year or two.
>>
>>57558280
>No, it's just one person trying to get people to use his distro so that it's not completely worthless in his resume.

Ok guys you got me. I need to come clean. It was me all along with a couple of buddies shitposting and spamming technology boards and forums non stop 24/7. We got like 37 or so more downloads this week but it seems like this project wont ever take off. We are deeply sorry and we´d like to apologize. We will now proceed to abandon our project and stop the spamming and shitposting for ever.

Solus is officially dead. now It was a bad idea all along. I fucking knew it,

Never understood what the purpose is. They're trying to make a touch/tablet interface? But it's just horrible and grotesque, it's pretty obvious that this isn't gonna work. What are they doing, really?
>>
>>57559487
>They're trying to make a touch/tablet interface?
They're trying to make Unity work like Windows 10. Regardless of how you feel about Windows 10 as an OS, it does the entire touch UI thing pretty well.
>>
>>57556724
oh god that's awful. can't wait to get solus ™ on my laptop installed.
>>
>>57557768
Fuck off now, budgie is shit, Solus has no packages, and the devs act like teenagers pretending they run a company

Yes creating a new display server and porting millions of lines of code to it takes time. It looks like shit right now but at least it's fast as hell.

>a couple buddies

Well that's where you fucking went wrong - you outsource that shit to India for pennies on the post man, look at how spammed as fuck this board is from Apple and Microsoft, that shit is cheap. You write a few scripts of things the Pajeets are supposed to say to each other and you monitor the threads for real activity. Then, when you have good answers to all the anger and hate you get from a thread on one board, you update the script to include those concerns and move it to the next board, so you can firm up your idea even more there.

Rinse and repeat.

To be honest Ikey is a pretty cool guy. However there's one attention seeking teenager called Kevin who's shilling Solus to the point that people get sick of hearing about it.
