Why do so many of you settle for Linux?
Is FreeBSD too hard for you to set up or what?
Gentoo is a cheap Linux imitation of BSD.

Go for the real thing. BSD is real Unix.

Stop playing with some guy's graduation paper project.

>Why do so many of you settle for Linux?
It has all the features I need: good programming environment, privacy and security, works with all my devices, good for occasional gaming.

>Is FreeBSD too hard for you to set up or what?
Wi-fi drivers are a nightmare. Everything else is mostly fine.

>Gentoo is a cheap Linux imitation of BSD.
And BSD is a cheap imitation of the real UNIX from Bell Labs.

>Go for the real thing. BSD is real Unix.
No, it's not. Research UNIX has been dead for two decades now.

>Stop playing with some guy's graduation paper project.
UNIX was made when Ken Thompson wanted to play a game on PDP-9. Get that stick out of your ass.

sorry, it was PDP-7

It's always the wireless drivers.
Other than that I do feel like BSD should have more users than linux

And graphics drivers.
And filesystem support is shit.

i think free BSD is good for server

The same can be said about Linux. Also, NVIDIA provides drivers for FreeBSD just as well as Linux, so good graphics are definitely possible with FreeBSD. If you care about CUDA, then it's another story, unfortunately...

>filesystem support is shit
FreeBSD has at least supported ZFS for longer than Linux, so the same argument can be made from the other direction.
>>
>>57553848
I have AMD graphics and FreeBSD doesn't support anything newer than ~2013.
Intel gpus are only supported up to and including Haswell.
The next time I uprade my computer, I can kiss any chance of FreeBSD goodbye forever. And that's gonna be pretty soon.

I get that you are big on ZFS, but I need support for other OS's filesystems because I occasionally have to mount a disk or two that use them.

Also, we need unix-wide standard on full-disk encryption.
