How do I monitor temperature from a distance?
Want to keep watch on the temperature in my boat, thinking about just sticking a camera in front of the thermostat but surely there is a better way.
Think I could manage to get it on my phone?

Something like this:

Look for "smart home thermometers" and thermostats.
Sticking a camera in front of the thermostat seems like the best option, anything else is overthinking it
Arduino with thermistor attached and wifi/Bluetooth.

But I impulsively thought of an optical pyrometer, but then noticed the temps are likely too low as many need to reach ~600C as the part needs to glow to read the radiation accurately.

This movie was boring. I'm such a weeb.

Absolutely this. Except for me it was easier with Raspberry Pi, a Python script and a webserver serving a JSON to another server. You just need a cheap sensor from Adafruit and a compatible USB WiFi dongle.
