people make fun and shitpost about amd, but their cpus are terrible for real. You can get away with having an AMD gpu if you enjoy ASMR and the wonderful breeze it provides, but buying an amd cpu.. absolutely terrible decision, i remember having to live for over a year with a shitty Athlon X4 II 635, i had to force myself to browse the net because i could not do anything else without my pc chugging, fps in games was miserable and editing videos was depressingly slow, during that time i became addicting to image boards and shitposting and dropped out of college. so yes, don't but amd cpus. it's all a plot of the chinks to bring down bright western thinkers

The newer APUs are fine for normie shit but don't think that any of the FX shit is worth the salt. Especially when the new i3-7350K is going to cost $30 more and kick the shit out of it.

AMD fx-8150 calling in. Loving it for a couple years or so. I've run multiple VMs at a time, compiled massive projects, and gamed a little bit, and it sits solid. I've heard good things about the 8320, so I imagine the 8300 will probably be pretty solid.

I've had the same motherboard since 2011. Replaced the 965 with an 8370 for $150 a couple months ago, probably going to be able to use it for 1080p games on medium for another couple of years (to my satisfaction).

7 years on the same build undergoing reasonable, planned GPU upgrades is not too shabby for gaming, not to mention as a daily driver. I built it inexpensively to stay on top of the previous console generation, and the same build, after upgrade/sell cycle, is still ahead of the current console generation.

Next board I get to choose between Intel and Zen, what perfect timing.

I did the same upgrade you're considering. Picked up an fx8300 for $90 on Black Friday two years ago. It's a huge upgrade for a system running a 955.

But, two months later I picked up an open box 970 mobo for $50 and built a second system around the 955 by reusing old parts and upgrading things on the original system (DDR3 RAM from 1066 to 1866, etc.) and migrating the old parts to the 955 system.

That 955 is running solid, OC'd to 3.8 GHz, dual booting to Win7 and Mint. The fx8300 was Win7 and is now Win10 and really solid, but I usually boot it when I game, or get into some graphics editing/creation.

Anyway, the 8300 is a powerful upgrade, so long as you don't run cutting edge games or encoding. You should be able to get one for under $100 by shopping around.

I picked up an 8320e for $100 at the beginning of this year and built a system for my brother's daughter around it. Wish I'd kept it for myself, but I wanted to give her a solid graphics editing station since she's going into art school and needs a powerful editing/creative workstation. I OC'd that up to 3.8 GHz also, and it sips power while staying cool. Crunches the fuck out of Adobe & Corel and is one too shabby on video work, too.

If you really want the best upgrade for your money, make sure your mobo can handle an 8320e & overclock it decently, then try to find one for about what you're looking at the 8300. It'll treat you better for your poorfag budget.

Otherwise, go with an 8350 or 8370 (uses more power, but more compatible with older motherboards) or get an 8370e and OC it until you're losing stability ... which can be about 4.2 GHz for almost all of them, if not a bit more.

I've seen the 8350s for as low as $130 this year. Kind'a wish the 8370s could be found for that or a bit less.
