KeePass is open source but requires installation of browser addons/extensions/ plugins and using Dropbox/OneDrive/Nextcloud to keep password database synced.
LastPass is closed source, single company, password database stored at their cloud only. (afaik)
What do you use and why?
I keep all my passwords in a text file called passwords.txt that I keep on my desktop. Hiding something in plain sight is so brilliant it just werks!
i use password safe
really simple to use
no shady integration plugin to install on web your browser
just double click to copy the password

If you are using one device, go keepass.
If you are using multiple and are too lazy to physically copy your database across devices every update, go lastpass. Dropbox is laughably insecure.
Also, make sure to us two step Auth, something like Google Auth or a Yubikey is the way to go.
keepass on my iphone synced to desktop for backup with itunes and then stored in an encrypted disk volume on an SD. i manually type all passwords, no browser extensions.

I have Nextcloud running on a server myself, reachable by internet with Fail2ban/Letsencrypt, am using it with KeePass, seems to work OK so far.

I currently use pass (password store). It's great if you like the command line, but if not there's also GUI's for it. Also there's an android app as well and I think you can sync your .passwordstore file with it using git.
