why buy office for $400 when Google docs is free and just as good
Why are there updates to an office suite every few years? I don't get it, whats so different about a word processor and a spreadsheet editor that they need to be rereleased under a new name and repurchased?

I need Excel and Access for work and sometimes like to work on my home computer
>just as good
Not really, also I got Office for free

Because they want you to keep rebuying it.

But why would you?

Are you too dumb to know how to read the fucking release notes of a product?
>>57521356
It doesn't interest me THAT much

Because the number on the program doesn't match the current year.

It interests you enough to write a post but not enough to read an answer?

It really isn't. Though it does have better collaborative tools. LibreOffice is what you're looking for if you need a local client.

Nothing. It's like how Autodesk released annual AutoCAD versions, and triennial file format updates to try to force upgrades. They're greedy fucks and the software hasn't changed appreciably in over a decade. But they still want four grand a year for an upgrade.
There's a decent argument I've seen made that Word 6 was the best release. All the features necessary before they started adding in a ton of useless garbage and forced integration between the various Office products.

Google docs shill here.
How is it not?
There's not exactly a lot of room for innovation for fucking word documents, and Google docs pretty much has you covered on just about everything you might want.
