Wher can I get cheap cherry caps preferably back-lit

I'm not paying more than a few bucks for a piece of plastic.
>>
>>57520809
I'd rather have fn + number row to be the function row and allocate the space at the bottom for other stuff. I like the idea of having a smaller spacebar like JIS though, I personally only ever press it on the left side
>>
>>57520809
That's disgusting and useless
>>
>>57520874
The problem with JIS or the Minila layout is the spacebar still being centered, if you're gonna shrink the spacebar it should be offset to the left, ideally with the centre of it directly underneath F.
>>
>>57520904
exactly. i'm thinking about making a custom layout with an offset spacebar like that and other oddities but i'm torn
having nice keycaps would be a pita

it's kind of funny how we tell newcomers "DON'T get the corsair, it's got a nonstandard layout and you won't be able to find keycaps!!!!!" and then we go and get alps boards and funny layouts that require child sets

the meme board of the season, the tada, still requires some non-standard keys

Only thing wrong with the memeforce is that it's kind of ugly. And people like to put on keycap sets that cost up to double the price of the board itself.

I want to know if a ps2 to sdl cable will be compatible with it, or are there other connectors i should know about?
>>
>>57521249
Not him, but I own a set of G20s. They're a little uncomfortable at first, but once I got used to it, my wpm actually went up by about 10 compared to my previous SA spherical keycaps.
>>
>>57521249
They're extremely comfortable. Not having sharp edged keys has made typing a lot more comfortable. I also prefer having keys that are all the same height and angle.

So no, they're not as bad as you think they are, they are perfect and I hate normal keys now.

Is there somewhere you guys like that sells cherry mx keycaps in various languages? I'm specifically looking for the Polish Programmer layout (which is QWERTY, as opposed to the more common Polish 204 layout, which is a QWERTZ).

I can find Japanese or Russian, but never Polish Pro... guess it's kind of an obscure one, but my native language is English so the Y/Z weirdness is too odd for me.

Maybe even somewhere that'd let me customize a key? I legitimately can't find anything other than those stickers for keys that kinda suck anyway.

Just curious, seemed a solid place to ask.
>>
>>57521492
you can get customized keys from WASDkeyboards. most people don't like the caps because of the quality (it's thin ABS, and wears easily), but it's undoubtedly better than stickers. it is probably the best solution for you
>>
>>57521291
You need a soarers converters, you can get them for like 30 dollars on ebay i think

>>
>>57521854
They typically aren't, but they certainly can be. The keyboard I'm using at work with mx clears, o-rings and thicc pbt caps is hardly louder than the rubber dome boards others are using.

Silenced Topre and Matias QC would be some other examples.
Though, needless to say, this also depends on what you're comparing a mechanical keyboard to. Lenovo for example, makes some riduculously loud rubber dome boards.

So after shopping around and researching as best I could, I've decided that assuming Black Friday turns up nothing relevant, this will be the keyboard for me.

https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=1930

Now I understand Kailh switches aren't held in high esteem and that Gaterons are considered the superior cheap Cherry alternatives, with Browns seemingly agreed upon to be even smoother and more tactile than Cherry's own. But I can't for the life of me find a fullsize Gateron Brown board anywhere that comes close to this one in price. In fact, they seem to be more or less in-line with comparable Cherry switch keyboards.

I've been looking for weeks, and my research tells me that such a board doesn't seem to exist, but I'm posting anyway on the off chance that one of you cool cats might be privy to information that has eluded me.

Will be buying my first mech keyboard today. I decided on the IKBC C104 keyboard but I'm having choosing which switch to pick. Blue or Brown? I play a lot of dota and I heard MX Blues have trouble with double tapping? That's the one thing that's holding me back from it.
>>
>>57522381
Blues can have hysteresis issues and are louder. Browns are a shitty compromise to fix that issue. Go with blacks or clears.
>>
>>57522381
All the popular cherry switches have their actuation point pretty far down in the travel distance.

Something you got to get used to. Red are the best for gaming imo.
>>
>>57522391
>>57522401
The only switches available are Browns and Blues.
>>
>>57522485
Well, browns and blues are fine, but blacks and reds (like black but a lot softer) are better. I'd get a different keyboard.
>>
>>57522485
Look elsewhere. Something like a Ducky One should be in the same price range I believe.

I second greens.

Not as good as buckling spring, but the best you wil find as a modrn switch until BS modules start getting produced.

Just make sure to avoid gateron (pic related) I,bought them for my planck and they are terrible compared to Cherry greens. The Gateron are a soft mess with a weak click.
>>
What are some popular PBT/POM keycaps that use Costar stabs? I have blank keycaps but my friends can't use my keyboard lmao
>>
>>57522381

I have greens(stiffer blues) and use them heavily for gaming.

I have had zero issues with double tap.

Actually, here in Japan blues are considered the gamer switch.

If I can't have bucklesprings I'd sooner get matias clickies before cherry ones.

hi guys, mechs aren't really my thing but I've bought my brother a little keyboard for christmas. It was a kit but I paid extra to have it prebuilt. It's finally arrived but two and a half columns of keys aren't working. I've had a look at the board and all of the soldering and diodes that I can see seem fine.

Anything else I can check before I write it off?
>>
>>57528915

>>
>>57529111
Integrity of the switches, layout, pcb.

What columns are they anon?
>>
>>57529170
the columns are wsx plus modifier, edc plus modifier and the g & b keys.

The fact the two full columns are right next to each other made me think maybe there was an issue at the controller end but I can't see anything.
>>
>>57529222

If you can access the pcb from underneath, you can short the keys' contacts with a small piece of wire or whatever and see if they activate.
>>
>>57529258
No trigger if I short the switches. If I connect the wire from the controller directly to the appropriate switch and then press it it triggers the right letter.

I mean with the keyboard hooked to the pc, flip it upside down and short any of the malfunctioning keys' contacts with a small piece of stripped wire from wherever, any piece of conductive material will do, I just tried with the keyboard I have right now (pic not related) and it worked. If they register from below it means the pcb is good and the switches are shit.

FC660M with navy blank caps or a Pok3r with caps from max?

I want a 60% so the fc660m having arrow keys still is nice but the non standard space bar turns me off.

I also want blank keycaps and am uninterested in buying a wasd and having the caps disintegrate in 4 months.

budgets 150$ max. I rather go get a 10$ rubber dome board then spend more than that
>>
>>57529595
Yeah I understand. That doesn't trigger them.

If I connect directly to the appropriate controller pin the appropriate letter is triggered. If I connect the controller after the switch and press the switch it triggers the letter so the switches are fine.

Unfortunately. The molds Cherry uses for blues are fucked so their QC is all over the place, so gathering tends to be better.

They're all linear. The bamboo version has 70g springs with about 50g actuation.

That's the hardest version, but according to the guy, it's relatively easy to replace the springs, but that's gonna cost you both time and money.

They promise to be smoother since there are no mechanical contact, But very few people actually have Hall effect keyboards so there's not many impressions.

There's no mice general up so I'll post this here.

Anyone know is Jelly Comb is a good brand? I'm on the hunt for a new mouse. https://www.amazon.com/Jelly-Buttons-Wired-Optical-Gaming/dp/B01HR7ZFR6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1479349440&sr=8-2&keywords=jelly+comb+mouse

The only real downside is 2KRO, so don't expect to play FPS vidya using it. Most people will say that buckling springs are better than cherry/alps switches though.

Although I love my JIS spacebar (2.5u?) it's too hard to find a replacement for.

F is superior, but you're not going to find one for $5 unless you have god tier luck.

Just spend the extra 20 bucks and get a g402.

I see this general is getting along just fine. I wonder though were the people who get triggered from topre switches and the autists who defend them? They seem to be the only group missing from here.
>>
>>57547637
>g402.

Don't you mean the G502?
>>
>>57547840
no the g402 is 35 bucks while the 502 costs 55. Anon wanted to buy a 15 dollar mouse and I told him to spend the extra 20 bucks

But 20 extra on top of that makes him a 1337 g4m0r

How hard is it to replace a switch on a Filco? I fucked up a key by not letting the keycap dry enough when I was washing them earlier. I also want to test out blues, so I might throw a blue switch in to see how it feels before I buy a filco w/ blues.
>>
>>57547883
Filco is plate mount so you have to desolder the switch
>>
>>57545801
where do you niggas find these boards for around that price? I've never used a mechanical keyboard before and I would like to get one for around that price range.
>inb4 use google faggot
I've looked all around the internet but all I've seen is boards starting at like $100.

i-i just want a 60% board for the cheep
>>
>>57548080
Ebay, it was a kbp v60.
>>
>>57548080
If you don't mind LEDs and using kailh switches you can get some new for 60 bucks like the rk61
>>
Help me /g/
Im thinking of buying the satan gh60 pcb on chinkxpress anytime soon (including plates and an an alu case). Is it any good? Should I stay away from the alu case and get just the acrylic one instead?

depends on how much a meme you are willing to make it?
>>
Alright, what do you /g/uys think about the Cougar 200k? No, I'm not trying to be some 1337 gaymer with the autistic lights, but I do like mech keyboards, and I've heard this one is quiet(er) because of the membrane switch. Halp/suggestions? I won't spend more than 40-50USD for a keyboard...
>>
>>57548213
Hey anon I think you are in the wrong place, but if you want a cheap and quiet mechanical keyboard then get an old cash register keyboard like any of the cherry g80 POS ones for 10 bucks then buy some o-rings for a dollar and you now have a cheap and quiet mechanical keyboard.
>>
>>57548178
Not gonna make a much of a meme out of it sadly. I just really want the programmability of it. Not even gonna attach any form of custom lighting onto it. Just custom keycaps.

>g80 POS
the big reason why you would get an acrylic case is for the LED lighting. They are cheaper then the aluminum cases, but they don't look as good if you don't put any lighting in them.
>>
>>57548152
>>57548331
aluminum cases are too conductive
acrylic for korean customs ftw
Couldn't you just use SharpKeys if you are on Windows? It's probably enough for you but if not AHK could fill the gap.
I get it if you have to use more than one computer.

I just found a rk61 with cherry mx switches for about that price.
is it possible to get a board with no key caps? Because I'm just gonna end up getting key caps, I like the miami themed ones, pic related.

average price on this meme right here tho?

Thanks anons. Appreciate the advice. Is the pcb good tho?

>aluminum is too conductive
What? It's not like I will kill myself with 5v right? I will also insulate every contact point with the alu chassis
>>
>>57548372
No I have another kb for work. The one I'm building will just sit at home. I don't like software solutions to my problem and I just want to do a custom. Fairly experienced with soldering so that won't be an issue

Are you talking about the keycaps with Japanese legends? Those are EnjoyPBT Dyesub and cost $75

Yea, same price with imsto.

XDA is not much more depending on layout.

I really don't know what that anon is talking about with conductivity. Now as far as the PCB is concerned, its actually really good for a chink board, though sometimes a resistor is not soldered properly.

>>
middle mouse button on my mionix naos 7k just broke, are there any other mice as top comfy as it or should i just buy another one?
>>
So I bought a used ergodox and the top aluminum plate is not looking so good, can I put it on the bottom of the case? Should I be worried about short circuits happening?
>>
>>57548802
Alright thanks. I was actually thinking about getting a clueboard, but I barely even use the insert and delete keys on my 660c that is why I opted to do a custom 60% instead.

Last question. Since zealios are so hard to find, would it be fine to just mod a gateron brown with 67g springs? I have one in stock already so it wouldn't be an issue sourcing those.
>>
>>57549319
Aren't clueboards completely programmable? If you don't use ins and del just program them to be literally anything else
>>
>>57549346
Yeah I know, but like I said in >>57548152 I really want an alu case. The clueboard drop costs $250 upwards with an alu case. For a little less than $150, I can do the same with a 60%. I just cant justify that huge of a price gap plus the fact that it's way easier to get aftermarket caps on a 60%
>>

I can't get a model F for 5 bucks, i rather just go custom chink switch with good reviews.
