"Hz" on an LCD monitor is exactly the same as FPS since they don't actually refresh like a CRT. The "refresh rate" terminology is just a legacy carryover from the CRT days.

And yet again the 144Hz people have no fucking clue what they are talking about. The advantage offered by 144Hz is that when fps is exceedingly high (like 200+) the frames are displayed more consistently rather than more staggered. This results in a more smooth feel. G-sync and such resolves this problem, though I think it causes a miniscule input delay. But the game will look perfectly smooth at 60fps/60Hz.
