i think there are people who have good reason to prefer matte, and people who have good reason to prefer glossy. i hope you have the option of getting whichever you prefer more. i don't think your quality of life is objectively affected by having one vs the other *except* to the extent that having a monitor you consciously like affects your quality of life.

Most cases: Matte especially if you're using it for general computing it is just easier on your eyes. The reflection of glossy tires your eyes out quicker.

Glossy has upsides but they're not really worth it unless you have specific uses.

I sorta accidentally got a glossy screen for my laptop, misread the ebay ad (they said they'd ship glossy or matte if you had a preference message the seller) didn't message seller and they sent glossy

I actually think it looks really nice. I'm not the kind of guy who would use my laptop outside in the sun, in controlled environment the glossy is beautiful. Yeah, glare is a thing but I honestly have been enjoying the good things about the glossy display (black is black, pictures are vibrant etc)

A lot of glossy displays aren't glass. Yeah you get expensive ones that have a glass display but a lot including very expensive TVs just have plastic over them. This shit gets scratched when dust gets blown over them.

Black is never black in a dark environment unless it's amoled.
In a bright environment it's either a clear reflection or a diffused reflection(blacks look lighter). For colors the panel type and quality matter way more.

I'm gonna have to disagree here, I've owned numerous laptops with matte screens, a few with glossy screens. The glossy screens have brighter colors and higher contrast in MOST situations.

I'm not shilling for glossy screens, I still prefer matte, like I said I accidentally ordered a higher resolution panel that's glossy

Ive recently moved to a 40" VA glosy 4k monitor
Never goign back to matte, reflections are a lie.
Happens once in a million and hardly notice, compared to how clear it is and confortable to work.
Also all media content is so much more enjoyable.

Are Apple the only people who bother advancing glossy displays? The newest MBPs I saw in store had almost the same reflection as a matte display. Matte always looks dusty or like it needs to be cleaned.
