Managed to snag a Lane Rebel leather reclining chair for free today, a neighbor was giving away some old furniture. Comfy as fuck, though it sits a bit low for my desk.

I scored an Aeron chair off Ebay for $500. NIB from some foreclosed company in California. Has all the adjustments and lumbar support. It has been amazing.

I don't think I'd recommend it at $1000 but at $500 it's a great chair.

I ended up just taking the wheels off of the desk, so it sits lower as well (not like I ever used the wheels to begin with). Any suggestions for cleaning a chair like this? I had to scrub it down with some washcloths and warm water, but it still smells a bit... outdoors-y? Are there ways to clean a chair so it won't be so funky?

This. Some people quarrel over the Aeron or other top-tier chairs, but the marginal benefit between them is negligible. What make the Aeron great is that they're widely available second hand for as little as 250usd, and their design lends itself to hiding any wear.

I can find better chairs for less though. Aeron has too much name recognition so anything less than $200 in good condition is going to get snatched quick. I've found several Steelcase Leaps for under $200 easy and it's a better chair.

That's a good find. I haven't looked in a while. During the 4-5 months I looked two years ago, all they had were Aerons. I wish shipping weren't such a pain so I can make a few shekels by reselling those on ebay.
