I mostly use windows even on my home computer due to work. I think I have Ubuntu Gnome. Next linux I install is likely manjaro.

Ubuntu is based off Debian, Mint is based off Ubuntu. There is a big misconception about the whole "updates" and "unsecured" thing. You can get literally every Ubuntu security update on mint to install by default. They label their updates 1-5 5 being unsafe.

It's just Mint's thinking that they don't want grandma or casual users to be greeted with black screen at boot after an update breaks their system, people who wouldn't know how to roll back the kernel or fix their shit using the terminal. So by default, Mint will only install updates that the mint team has tested

people laugh when I say it's Ubuntu, but it's ubuntu. Most updates are ubuntu updates, 90 percent of packages I install are from Ubuntu repositories etc

I have Kubuntu KDE on my desktop and still like Mint Cinnamon better, that might be because Cinnamon is so much better than KDE though
