What's up, /g/? Why do you people hate so much on the new Macbook Pro?
>>
it's pretty fucking shit compared to the previous itterations
>>
>>57486989
only because of the lack of ports useful to only a handful of people?
>>
>>57486989
Not too mention way too fucking expensive. I'd feel like a fool everytime I turned that thing on if I purchased it.

put the price aside, some people like me can buy it without looking at the money

I used to love Apple.
I currently have an iPhone, a Macbook, and an Applewatch.

I'll still say that the iPhone is the best on the market before the 7, but everything else is shit. The Macbook is okay for writing papers and basic garbage, but it's useless for anything else. I wasted $600, yes SIX HUNDRED fucking dollars on an Apple Watch, and I regret it every day I wake up and look at it. They only sell in the after mark for $200 now and I'd honestly be happy to get that.

Fuck Apple. I will never buy another product from them ever again.

>>57487009
This is how I feel.
>>
>>57486980
It's not Pro, it's just a larger MacBook.

I need a laptop for school that's dependable, durable, and fast but am working on a limited budget.

Is the Thinkpad T420 a good option? I can get a refurbished model for $200
>>
>>57487029
And you're exactly who it's designed for.

>>57487007
Please tell me how it's justified to spend $20 to charge my new Apple phone on my Apple laptop, where any other laptop would allow me to charge it without buying an adapter?

For that matter, using (almost) any device requires the purchase of an adapter. So much for "Just Werks".
>>
>>57487007
The absence of an SD card reader will most likely make a part of apple's regular customers either buy a 2015 model or jump ship.

Also, Apple went way too fast on the jump towards USB-C, and will most likely suffer from it.

One USB-A and one SD Card slot would have probably been way more useful than just two ports on the already-more-expensive mbp, which effectively makes it a non-throttling macbook with two ports and a slightly beefier GPU.

The mbp w/ memeoji bar should have been the fucking baseline, not a god damned space grey dildo that fucks you with the price before you even use the unit.
>>
>>57487007
it's the 'pro' variety. it should have all the amenities. being a macfag, that enjoys things to just werk on my casual machines, i am pissed. this would be okay for the macbook or air, but the macbook pro should have had old ports PLUS the new usbc stuff. i am actually really upset, because a lenovo p-line computers are more expensive. but that's the new closest thing to my standards.
>>
>>57487036
What is the appeal of the iPhone? Other than a braindead-to-use UI and marketing, I have never heard a justified reason from someone who is actually tech-literate about why it is a better device over Android.
>>
>>57486980

Anon, I'm not exactly what one would call "tech illiterate", but I do have a single reason that keeps me from switching: How it feels in my hand. Yes, something as mundane and simple as that is what keeps me from moving on. When I pick up an iPhone, it just feels like a quality device, like it has a solid weight too it. The touchscreen feels more responsive than any android I've ever used, and the buttons feels responsive and concise.

That being said, I'm going to stick with the 6s as long I can. Apple can fuck right off with their lack of headphone jack.
>>
>>57487150
>Other than a braindead-to-use UI
What is with this stupid meme? Should things be unnecessarily difficult to use? How is easy bad?
>>
>>57487007
You do realize if you buy an iPhone 7 and the new MBP 2016 you cannot charge your phone on your laptop without a physical adapter?

"It just werks" (as long as you also buy this $80 apple dongle)

Oh and for some unfathomable reason the laptop has issues if you use 3rd party dongles, despite those dongles working just fine on any other laptop with USB-C ports.
>>
Apple is clearly running out of ideas. They can't scam their user base anymore
>>
What are the chances Apple will rollback the headphone jack removal from the iPhone 7 (or later release of the phone)?
>>
>>57487200
i am an apple user, not loyal or any bullshit, but i own an air and a 2015 mbp. i do it because my job requires computers in many different settings, and they supplement my w530 and a desktop very well. the "just werks" aspect is nice, as long as you don't buy into the "philosophy" behind it. the new iphone 7 and the new mbp completely ruin that. they are gimicky, avenues for money-grabbing by apple, lacking in features, and hard to use.

If you want blazing fast boot times, make sure to buy a SSD.
>>
>>57487243
you still have to pay $20 for a cable to do that, it doesn't come with the iphone nor the macbook pro
>>
>>57487281

>>
I don't give a fuck about MacBooks I don't like applebots, they're stupid.
>>
>>57487359
most of people dont have any dslr therefore no need for an sd card reader
therefore id prefer my laptop as slim as it is and use the dongle ( seriously, it doesnt kill anybody ) only when i need it, which is on rare ocasions
you see, just because some people are using ports doesnt mean everyone is using them
personally i dont see the lack of some ports i dont use as a tragedy, not even a bad thing
calm down, kid, go back to your winshit and enjoy your endless flow of lag, bugs and crashes no matter the specs
>>
>>57487445
>most of people dont have any dslr therefore no need for an sd card reader
You're a fuckin shill, anyone with a camera, phone or other memory format has it and requires it

>slim as possible
the dimensions for the SD card module is well within the dimensions of the laptop

Theres no reason to not have it you fucking shill, thinner =/= better you're losing so much fucking versatility for bullshit like "muh thinness"
>>
>>57487445
So you're the 1 person who has to have thinner and thinner. Why don't you buy a MacBook, then? The Pro isn't supposed to be for you.
>>
>>57487066
>>57487272
if it will be your only computer, i would say get a t430 instead. or a w530 if you don't need to be away from a charger for long periods of time. you can get a nice t430 under $300 and a nice w530 under $375. the boost in performance is worth it, especially if you do actually use cad software or photoshop or whatnot.
(if you don't know *10vs*20 vs*30 denotes one generation of difference each).

I really think that the 3.1mm decrease in thickness was not worth sacrificing key travel. The keyboard is not unusable but it just isn't pleasant to type on. They should have kept the thickness of the old model. Kept magsafe, kept one usb port and an sd card reader. Also with the old thickness but new display the battery life would have increased.

They should have kept a big distance between the maximum portability Macbook and maximum performance Macbook Pro. It was predictable but did anyone really complain about the Macbook Pro being too thick?
>>
>>57489011
Basically they should have changed nothing but the processor, the gpu, and the screen and it would have been an ideal computer

5 pounds isn't all that heavy and anyone who cares about performance probably wouldn't complain. For everyone else there's the macbook.

The keyboard I've dicked around on and unpleasant is the exact word. I remember reading a review about it that said you can feel the impact in your bones. Doesn't sound fun if you type a lot.

I don't mind it having USB Type-C only.

Long story short I spilled beer on my laptop, shorted out the hard drive :/. So I have two options: get a new hard drive, or buy a new small laptop. Taking into accout that I just use my laptop for watching videos, surfing the web and editing documents (no gaming, no video editing, etc.), and would have a barebones Arch with i3 and no DE, should I get a new hard drive (would probably be ssd), which would be cheaper, or a new mini-lap/netbook that would be a little more expensive, but much more portable? If SSD, what size?

Compromises is what makes laptop shit in every aspect. If you want to game, get some gaming laptop but don't cry about battery life or portability. If you want to work on it with programs that are not demanding in CPU/GPU, a macbook is perfectly fine. I'm trying the 2016 MBP without touch bar and I'm pleased so far.

no ports, I own a 2015 rMBP with the dedicated GPU and it's going to be my last Mac if Apple doesn't reverse course. I already dual boot Windows 10 Pro and macOS on it so I am not particularly loyal to Apple.

>>57487093
I use my SD card reader regularly with my mirrorless camera but that's not even the only issue. I also connect my Mac to external displays via HDMI and DisplayPort regularly. The removal of this functionality means I will need a different computer in the future. Plus, not having USB-A? Seriously? On a $2000+ laptop? Fuck off Apple, you goddamn kikes.
>>
>>57487093

>Apple went way too fast on the jump towards USB-C

No, fuck you. You clueless moron. Slow transitions are the cause of multiple standards which do the same thing and a world of incompatibility in shit like displays. There was decades of refinement and device shrinking and now USB-C is perfect for everything, from phones to display connections and so it should be moved to as quickly as possible.

Firefox and especially Chrome are pretty shitty on OSX in comparison to Safari unforunately.
>>

>Higher portability is now a negative point?
Thinness at the expensive of literally everything else has been a negative point since about 2008, now.

As a replacement for mDP Thunderbolt ports? Sure. For literally all I/O on the device? No.
>>
>>57491968
>For literally all I/O on the device? No.
why?
because your devices don't have USB-C connectors?

It's undeniably superior in all ways
>>
>>57491968
>For literally all I/O on the device?
Yes. I don't need different ports, that is why USB was so successful. USB-C is just the next iteration and you'll be glad in the future.
>>
Because they are faggots.
>>
>>57491987
>why?
Because it breaks compatibility with everything for no real reason? There's plenty of space for ports on the older retina MBP. It's only superior to mDP in that it is reversible. It has really nothing on USB-A other than being reversible and smaller. Even just adding back MagSafe and HDMI would be a huge improvement.

>>57492072
>macs are super price stable so you'll get a good chunk of money back anyway.

Exactly. I've been doing it for years, and one of my favorite parts about Apple shit is retail value. Apple Care expires in March, so I'll have a whole new computer with updated care, and get lots of new features.

I'll probably sell it to a family member for a super low price, and since I'm sending it in they will fix all the small issues I've had with it. What a lot of people don't understand about the benefits of Apple is the customer service. It is better than literally every other company. I can get someone in a chat window in the middle of the night, have them diagnose a problem, it's fantastic.

Another thing people are seemingly missing with this laptop is that it is designed as a docking/dual role use computer. I was about to personally sell my MBPr and buy a Mac Pro for home use, but with the inclusion of this laptop I will just buy one of the LG 5K monitors when they are available in December, and be able to dock my laptop to the monitor(which has extended ports) via a single cable which will keep everything charged and handle ALL data transfer. Even I am a power user, but I rarely use the ports on the computer for anything of merit while not at a desk. The only thing is I use the SD card slot, but now that I am rocking cameras with Cfast/Cflash I need a dongle anyway, so no big deal there.

Many people hate it, but this laptop solves a few of the problems that I was currently experiencing. Also looking forward to the updated screen, and Touch ID for multiple reasons.

The problem is the Mac Pro costs WAY too much for a single socket system and the 12 core system doesn't have enough jigglehertz to be compelling when compared with a dual socket machine you can have for the same price, expensive engineering porn aside. Then you get the same dongle hell you get with the new MacBook Pro because it has no internal expansion slots. The Mac Pro is a compelling machine, but not in the price bracket it competes in.

Call me autistic or poor but seriously unless you need a portable desktop for intensive work (3d modeling or video editing or even gaming I guess) why spend more than like 100 bucks on a laptop.. other than the aforementioned reasons in some cases all you really need a laptop for is basically web browsing, text editing and watching videos. I have a Thinkpad t61p I bought for 60 bucks and a 64gb ssd and 500gb HDD and it does all that + old school runescape just fine .. I just find it silly to spend too much on a laptop when you can build a desktop that is pissloads more powerful at that price point.

Why do people hide the fact retina screens have an issue with images burning into it? It's as bad as the Samsung AMOLED meme

I've worked in a service/repair shop for 13 years and in 2012 we begun working on macs too and just about every one that came in aside from ones that were almost brand new (hah, brand new laptop having to come in for repairs!) all had an issue with ghost images on the screen. At login screen you'd always see spotify, facebook or itunes burned into the screen XD

>>
>>57493812

It's a common problem with them. Leave it on for 12 hours straight with the same window open without any screensaver and don't allow the screen to turn off and the image will burn into it. we always get them in with people thinking it's fixed simply by replacing the LCD connector. Soon as we tell them it's $300 for a new screen they tell us to go fuck ourselves then they go to Apple then they come back to us after Apple tells them it's $800 for a new screen.
