Will Mozilla make Firefox great again?
>Quantum is our effort to develop Mozilla’s next-generation web engine and start delivering major improvements to users by the end of 2017.

What about Servo? What's going on with that?
>>57482184
Quantum is about incorporating servo's features into firefox.
>end of 2017
I scoff in your direction, Mozilla.
>>57482284
Just wait a decade. Firefox will come out on top.
8 years after Chrome's release they're trying to save Firefox
just lol

Quantum is servo+gecko. Pure servo engine would be awful to use.
Sounds like a big clusterfuck to me. Either move to Servo, or don't.

so by the time it comes out it'll already be obsolete, good to know
>>57482733
It won't be ready even in 2-3 years, there's no such possibility.
>>57482762
It still sounds completely retarded having two different programming language in your engine.
>>57482799
They're leaning on Rust for strictly practical reasons. They want simething fast like C but "safe" like C++.

Servo is still under active developement and nowhere near complete. Quantum is taking the completed parts of Servo and incorporating them into Gecko. By the time Servo is complete the HTML rendering engine may be the only significant portion of Gecko remaining which would then allow them to just drop in Servo.
