The weaker one is probably physx.
>>
>>57479774
Isn't that horribly optimized? I've seen tests where they have a very powerful card just dedicated to physx, like 2 1070's but one is physx and it ends up performing basically equal and sometimes worse than just a single card

>>57481344
I've considered it, but I'm getting into retardedly priced case territory due to how much hardware I have in it. I really can't justify spending $200-$300 on a case to make my cables look pretty.

>>57481375
This case is a full tower. Just doesn't look like it in the pic.

The top 4 hotswap bays aren't populated all the time. They're hotswap bays since I work with external drives very often.

You can attempt to route the cables around the edge of the case even though there's no motherboard tray in that pre-built. Same thing people used to do with the old Antec 300.

You can also paint the interior of the case the same way people used to do for the Antec 300.

You can also paint your motherboard.

And so on...

I only suggest these things since you're posting in a /g/uts thread, which means you probably have some inkling of an interest in case modding/aesthetics. I mainly lurk here because my recent build could still use some work.

If you really want to get dumb, disassemble your power supply (this will void the warranty, and requires caution because of the large, high voltage capacitors inside) and remove unused cables by unsoldering them from the board or clipping+heat shrink. I did this with a really old build (similar to yours, it started its life as a pre-built, but my main goal was case modding and not replacing hardware) and it turned out pretty nice.

Advice?:

Anybody know of a simple, cheap electronics toolkit with decently anti-meme and good quality tools? I am overseas currently and all of my tools/power supplies/test equipment are sitting in storage back in the states. I bought a simple PC toolkit from newegg when I built this computer, and I have a Gerber multitool. Not exactly tools I could undertake cable sleeving which is something I'm interested in doing.

Sorry for the novel.

How to properly reduce dust gathering inside your case?

Corsair 200R have a lot of holes everywhere and I cover case upper part when not in use, but when I was trying to reapply thermal paste for cooler few days ago, I still found rather disturbing layer of dust everywhere. There is a dust filter for front fan, but clearly it doesnt help much. At the same time, Im kinda afraid, if covering too much during use wouldnt make everything boil inside.

>>
>>57483477
Well it's a bit misleading, it's a 530w PSU, but you can only put about 456w load on the 12v (the primary) rail.

MOST good PSUs you can put the full load of the rated wattage on the 12v rail.

For example my PSU is a 600w PSU and it can put 588w on the 12v rail. 12 watts from 600w rating.

Yours is ~80w from it's stated wattage.

Also the build quality isn't fantastic, poor soldering but decent internal components, the only real issues are during load situations the 3.3v and 5v rails occasionally have too much ripple for the 80 Plus certification.

Basically it's just a cheap PSU.
>>
>>57483534
Yes, i am aware of its price. I was on real tight budget because of that CPU. And to be honest, ill probably never even be close to using its full wattage.

>A whole new build with a 6700k and a 1080 would cost me over 1700€
Is it really worth it /g/?

I was thinking of getting this:
Intel Core i7-6700K
Cooler Master Hyper 212X
Asus Z170-PRO GAMING
DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX, 2 x 8 GB, 3000 MHz
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 SuperClocked GAMING ACX 3.0
Crucial BX200, 480 GB
Western Digital WD Blue, 2 TB
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2, 650W

Should I change anything?

The 1080 is the cheapest I could find.
Not sure about the case yet, the Bitfenix Neos looks kind of cool and is the kind of case I like but it seems rather small. Any recommendation?

It's Mini-SAS to SATA. I use a PCIe card to manage main RAID i/o because there's not enough bandwidth on my chipset lanes for 8 drives + my external bays.

Honestly why not, there are loads of affordable SAS host bus adapters available that won't break the bank both new and used.

Let's you use enterprise 10k/15k drives and backplane communication for drive status.

It's not hard to find a used SAS HBA controller for under $100 from a reputable brand.

Lots of LSI controllers for example sell between $40-$80 regularly on ebay.
>>
>>57494137

Sure but I'm talking about the SAS drives themselves, why use them over normal HDD or SSD even? Maybe you got 10 or 15k rpm drives in there now but they can be costly to replace.
>>
>>57494217
I've never seen the need for SAS outside of enterprise needs. My home servers are always built using SATA drives.
>>
>>57494217
Depends a lot on the situation, RAID is generally why you'd want to bother with SAS drives as a home user. By themselves they're not worth the cost barrier to use.

SSD's will wipe the floor in performance but SAS drives still have the upper hand in cost, which adds up when buying multiple drives.

>>
>>57494497
SAS and SSDs are not mutually exclusive.
>>
>>57495466
that's what backups are for, a RAID array is not a backup solution and shouldnt be treated as such.

If there is fire, all your data is fucked that redundancy isn't helping anyone. However if you keep offsite backups, or cloud backups, you replace your dead drives, and redownload the data, or you go to your safety deposit box at the bank where you keep your backup drives and throw them into your system.

The point is you should never be using RAID in lieu of a proper backup.

Redundancy is only one part of what RAID offers, forgetting that you can stripe drives for better performance than you'd otherwise get running them alone.

Sleeved extensions unless it's more than 5-6 years old already.

>>57497461
software RAID > hardware RAID in this day and age. CPUs are fast enough that it's not worth having hardware acceleration for it anymore. Also if a hardware controller dies, you might not be able to read the disks at all without an identical controller - sometimes identical down to the firmware revision. Software RAID disks can just be plugged into any other computer running the same type of operating system.

ZFS is the big way to do all this nowadays, and it can be had on BSDs or Linux. Linux has Btrfs, too. Btrfs had a major fuckup with RAID6 support recently, but RAID1 is still regarded as solid.

I think Windows can do these things in a more limited, clunky, Windowsy kind of way with storage spaces, but I've never used it myself.

Built this for my sister. Thing was fast for how much I put into it.
>>
>>57504484
I built my sister a desktop after her laptop died
Her goal was Minecraft, she was previously playing on integrated celeron n2830 graphics so I wanted to get her a good performance experience on a budget

Athlon 5350 on an ECS Kam1-I mini Itx board, cooled by a BeQuiet shadowrock lp
8gb of Hyperx Blue ddr3 1600mhz ram
A Zotac 750ti
An Adata sp550 120gb SSD
Some Apvexia 450w PSU
In a cooler master elite 110

I already had the cooler, GPU, ram and SSD, so it was like 130$ total out of pocket
With the Athlon at 2.5ghz (4 hole cooler mount on the board allowing for the shadowrock really helps) makes 1080p maxed Minecraft a 45fps min dream on Ubuntu 16.04
>>
>>57504562
And the whole thing draws like 120w under max load
Even without a 4 pin CPU power connector on the mobo that Athlon is still only at around 35w
>>
>>57504484
How old is your sister? Pics of your sister?
>>
>>57504562
Nice! This one was fun because I had to spice wires and improvise with the PSU in order to get it to boot with no help from the internet. Then I had to use washers to mount it. The combination of the SSD and GPU made it feel like a whole new PC. It played GTA 5 really nice and booted in less than 15 seconds.

I'm looking for a new computer case. My current one, Fractal Design Define R4's hard drive cage sucks ass. I had to ghetto mod it with pieces of foam to stop the insane vibrations. The vibrations spread through the floor and then travelled into other rooms nearby. That shit is not okay, in my opinion.

Have Fractal Design unfucked the HDD cage bay in the newer versions? Do you guys have any recommendations for a new ATX computer case?

Thanks in advance :)))
