So, I'm buying a new computer.
This will be my first experience with UEFI. How is it different than BIOS? What do I need to change to avoid problems? I know disabling Secure Boot is one thing.
>>
Well if your wanting to keep using Win 7 you'll have to disable it and use standard bios in order to use the Daz Loader. Daz Loader and UEFI don't mix. No biggie, all uefi is good for is if your wanting a 3TB+ drive as your boot drive.
>>
>>57478794
If using linux you need to specify your efi boot partition. Other than that disable secure boot in bios and enjoy faster boot times.
>>
>>57478877
How do I do this? Going to be installing Fedora.
>>
>>57478897
Nevermind, I found a tutorial.
>>
>>57478839
Actually just use Windows Loader instead of Daz, works for all versions of Windows as well
>>
>>57478794
the main difference is you can use your mouse to configure it and don't need a ps/2 keyboard
>>
>>57479236
What? I've been configuring BIOS with USB keyboards for years.

FINALLY ANOTHER FUCKING UEFI THREAD

Been waiting so long for a real thread that I have actual interest in. To answer your dick, OP. Best article I've ever found on UEFI is the following one. Read up, be enlightened.

UEFI a shit
GPT a shit

enjoy your botnet
>>
>>57479445
That was in BIOSes since at least 2008 bud, but it's not "botnets", it's backdoors

Fuck off, retard. You don't need to activate wangblows anyways. After the 30 day trial period expires, you get a "windows isn't genuine" message. Just reset the trial period to get another 30 days. Open the command prompt as admin and type "SLMGR/REARM" and wait for a confirmation that it was successful. Reboot and enjoy the next 30 days. Repeat infinitely. No third party shitware required.

I reinstall Windows every 6 months as part of system maintenance. If you don't do this as well, you shouldn't be on this board.
>>

No sane person would stay on Windows for a year, anyway.
>>
>>57479641
If you're using Windows, you shouldn't be on this board.

>Choosing
Once again, you prove yourself incapable of understanding very basic things. I don't WANT to use Windows, but I NEED to for work. Do you see that word I used there, you fucking downie? That word is "need" which means that it is not optional. I do not choose to use Windows, it is mandatory to run the programs I use for remote login.
>>
>>57478794
Uefi is more secure from malware, bios is legacy now, better UI, faster startup time, and compatible with uefi and bios hardware.
>>
>>57479641
Windows 98 was 15 years ago.

Found the child. I would rather work with Windows for a few hours a week than not have any money. You must be 18 years or older to post here.

Keep thinking that, Anon. I am probably old enough to be your grandfather.
In the end, you will realize that it is you who hath failed not only yourself, but the human race as a whole.
By not dedicating yourself to a craft or trade that is truly Free, you are your own jailer.

Is that really so hard to believe?
>>
>>57478794
if you're installing Linux, you'll want to make sure that the boot media boots in UEFI mode and not "legacy/BIOS". I ran into a wall with this installing Arch Linux on a new machine but was able to get around it.
>>
>>57480206
Yes, it is. In fact your response leads me to believe that you are dodging the question by lying because you got tired of skimming wikipedia pages on ARM SoCs.

it's the same thing. just disable secure boot and you're good to go.

TOPLEL

this is the worst advice i've heard this week
>>
>>57479906
So my experience with uefi it has been slow as shit and a lot of those load times where you have no idea if its actually doing anything. That coupled with boot loops that go infinitely and take a half hour each loop. Given this was while trying to repair a damaged windows 10 install . Kinda liked bios better where it took 15 seconds at worst and then would either boot or say it couldn't find where to boot from. That, I could fix.
