What's /g/'s opinion on the 'best' laptops for penetration testing and programming?
Literally anything, you will be running a bunch of scripts or tool kits. Modern ideas will run on basically anything too. Pick something light.
Personal recommendation renovation yogas pretty good for the prices
None, build a desktop you fucking retard.
Also, remember that hacking into private networks is a felony and I have my wifi setup to detect intrusions and will report them straight to the feds.

I love all of this simple tech, why do normies want devices than can do backflips?

If you're a journalist or you plan on doing things you probably shouldn't, then I suggest anything that supports Libreboot. Otherwise Lenovo and Dell have some nice machines.
>pen testing
something light and powerful with expansion options OR something cheap and disposable depending on what kind of red teaming
>programming
depends on what kind, but most laptops are really overpowered for writing text and running compilers
