Well I been watching the processes in task manager and all processes related to upgrading don't spawn anymore.

The store stopped working after blocking Microsoft domains in the host file. Cortana also doesn't work because it can't call home.

So the host domain blocking method definitely works if you know all the domains you need ti block. Also you have to disable that built-in DNS client which can bypass your host file and uses hardcoded domains.

Once you do that enjoy your fully functional windows, free of any unwanted background processes or upgrades.
