My Acer C720 Chromebook does everything I need it to. I've got a $5/mo VPS that I do all my programming on, and everything else is done through the web browser these days. The only thing I miss is GIMP, but I'm working on being able to pipe that through a video stream from my VPS

I recently purchased one of these so that I could transplant the screen onto my libre x200. Sadly, it seems that Libreboot does not turn on its backlight. The screen works fine otherwise, and I can see everything when I shine a flashlight onto it. I tried hacking around with some of the backlight settings but I could not get it working. Once I have time, it would be awesome to find a way to get it working, because that would probably be one of the highest pixel densities possible on a libre computer. For now I have cloned my drive onto the x200s and I left it with its screen, and I will continue to use my x200 as my main laptop but play around with the x200s.

I did notice that the x200s is substantially lighter than the x200. It has a worse CPU and it is harder to libreboot though.

>>
Depending on the kind of program you will be running the laptop may need to vary on it's build. If you are planning to compile Java applications or C programs, you may want to use a mac book.. the integration of the CPU, motherboard speed and SSD read/write speed will really help speed things up. If you are writing web developer programs, than you can pretty much use any computer that allows you to browse the web or run the Apache2 or NginX server. I would recommend a mac-book or a tablet windows pc.. either or..

I can't wait until I get the rest of the parts for my VGN-P. I'm just waiting on a new LCD panel and SSD for one of them and pic related needs two daughterboards replaced (already have them, just waiting until I get the SSD) so that the mouse and camera can work. It could use a new LCD (damaged but all pixels work) and it needs new LCD housing but otherwise it is fine.

Here's a lewd picture.

They'll run any modern OS decently but they are definitely slower than modern atom machines.

If i could find one of these cheap with a *GOOD* battery(6+ hours) i would be so happy.

I went with an 11e(no trackpoint, HUGE bezels) which i think is probably better power and battery wise(modern celeron, 8-10hrs of battery) and maybe build quality(made as a educational laptop that will be abused by inconsiderate students) but the bezel and keyboard make me sad. I also think the old thinkpads just look sexier.

I also own an AO522(C-50, 4gb of ram) and a TF100(Z3736 atom, 2gb of ram). I love my cheap/disposable netbooks :)

My AO522 is using a C-50(which is like a nerfed e-350) and it isnt too painful with windows 10. Loading youtube is shitty though, since even at 480, it loses sync frequently.

I love that feature. I keep three charged batteries in my backpack just in case.
