i was searching for a small laptop for college but i cant find anything good. I will be using it only for programming and pdf-reading. Maybe something old-ish. can u guys help ?
x220
Thinkpad x200s is a beautiful little machine. It's basically a little typewriter and you can find them with 1440x900 screens.
I live in italy, thinkpad here are overpriced af
Cellphone
That description literally matches the x220
>>57459779
Try eBay or similar site
anything beside x220 ? even smaller if possible

I bought an Asus x205ta a year ago, the battery life is great
ASUS x205 is a solid choice
if you want even smaller you can try to find a second hand HP mini
My Acer C720 Chromebook does everything I need it to. I've got a $5/mo VPS that I do all my programming on, and everything else is done through the web browser these days. The only thing I miss is GIMP, but I'm working on being able to pipe that through a video stream from my VPS
For those who do programming, typing a lot and so on how is a chiclet keyboard? Are there any small laptops which have a better keyboard? I'm worried that the chiclet keyboard it's going to annoy me as I tend to type pretty fast the tips of my fingers always seem to scrape on the corners of the chiclet keyboard keys.
>>57459747
That looks comfy af.
Why did everything went to whit after this?
>>57460628
I type on a chiclet keyboard at around 110wpm, it's perfect
I just want I've without a trackpad to be honest

I picked up a thinkpad x230i (i3) don't need much horsepower since I run Linux and use it for programming and web browsing, for 215$. Look it up on ebay and wait for a good deal, i wouldn't go older than x220

I use my libre x200 for all of my college things. You can also get a dock for it so that you can connect to an external monitor and mouse easily.
i love SSLs
>>57459775
I recently purchased one of these so that I could transplant the screen onto my libre x200. Sadly, it seems that Libreboot does not turn on its backlight. The screen works fine otherwise, and I can see everything when I shine a flashlight onto it. I tried hacking around with some of the backlight settings but I could not get it working. Once I have time, it would be awesome to find a way to get it working, because that would probably be one of the highest pixel densities possible on a libre computer. For now I have cloned my drive onto the x200s and I left it with its screen, and I will continue to use my x200 as my main laptop but play around with the x200s.
I did notice that the x200s is substantially lighter than the x200. It has a worse CPU and it is harder to libreboot though.

>>57459747
A lot of people at my uni use Surfaces. Personally I'd just get a 15 inch whatever, if I didn't already have a nice laptop.
>>57462871
x200 docks are excellent, and you can flip the extra battery charger out the top left side to charge a second battery.
>>57461679
If it's in good shape that's slightly high but you'll enjoy the machine. Toss an SSD in it at earliest opportunity.

x131e here with an i3. Can actually gayme csgo and shit with it. Love it to death.
>>57460949

Your best options are Panasonic. RZ4 is by far the best, but you'll need to import it. As an alternative, the AX2 and AX3 are quite easy to find, but have soldered memory and were mostly sold in 4GB configurations.

>>57459775
Can confirm. Comfy as fuck. Then 1.86GHz dual core is showing it's age though. For programming/720p/shitposting is fine though.
Depending on the kind of program you will be running the laptop may need to vary on it's build. If you are planning to compile Java applications or C programs, you may want to use a mac book.. the integration of the CPU, motherboard speed and SSD read/write speed will really help speed things up. If you are writing web developer programs, than you can pretty much use any computer that allows you to browse the web or run the Apache2 or NginX server. I would recommend a mac-book or a tablet windows pc.. either or..
>>57470099
I've got the serial cable for mine, I transfer software via zmodem, shits sloooooow.
I can't wait until I get the rest of the parts for my VGN-P. I'm just waiting on a new LCD panel and SSD for one of them and pic related needs two daughterboards replaced (already have them, just waiting until I get the SSD) so that the mouse and camera can work. It could use a new LCD (damaged but all pixels work) and it needs new LCD housing but otherwise it is fine.
Here's a lewd picture.
>>57468030
They kind of did. Look up Sony Vaio VGN-P___. I have two and both are in bits right now but they are relatively modern. Most have a z520 and 2gb of ram. I'm dropping SSDs in mine.
They'll run any modern OS decently but they are definitely slower than modern atom machines.

>>57470836
You've clearly never seen one in person. If Apple does one thing right its solid manufacturing. This thing feels solid as fuck, partly thanks to the new MIM hinge making for 100% metal unibody, and partly because of Apple's extremely low manufacturing tolerances.
>>57466005

I got a x121 with an e-350 a few years back. Out of the Box that thing would hit over 90°C under load, turns out the Tim was all dried out so I reapplied it.
Now I'm using the machine for web development under Linux and it works great!

Using the Raspberry Pi for computing is a meme, unless you already have literally everything lying around it's as expensive as an x201, which isn't ARM shit and actually has RAM.
>>57460501
That's only good for remote work. The CPU is a piece of crap but the size is great and batt life is decent.

>>57459775
If i could find one of these cheap with a *GOOD* battery(6+ hours) i would be so happy.
I went with an 11e(no trackpoint, HUGE bezels) which i think is probably better power and battery wise(modern celeron, 8-10hrs of battery) and maybe build quality(made as a educational laptop that will be abused by inconsiderate students) but the bezel and keyboard make me sad. I also think the old thinkpads just look sexier.
I also own an AO522(C-50, 4gb of ram) and a TF100(Z3736 atom, 2gb of ram). I love my cheap/disposable netbooks :)
>>57468093

>>57466468
My AO522 is using a C-50(which is like a nerfed e-350) and it isnt too painful with windows 10. Loading youtube is shitty though, since even at 480, it loses sync frequently.
