KDE with its in house apps makes it difficult to perform simple tasks like updating software and configuring sources. These are grouped in one menu in all distros but they decided to split them into retarded categories.

The system takes forever to start and shut down with screen tearing which requires more resources to do full redraw on laptops.

So great, I can almost puke.

>>
>>57439831
On Windows you have explorer.exe, which is basically your desktop environment. You can't really change it in Windows. On Linux, to have choice. You can have a desktop environment that looks like Mac OS, DE that resembles Windows, lightweight ones for toasters, etc. Up to you to choose what you want.

>>
>>57439881
Not really just a skin, it comes with all sorts of software, file explorers, etc. One of the arguments for KDE against other ones is this, for example

>>57439752
>>57439795
>>
>>57439560
Well, one good reason could be because GTK themes are all broken under KDE atm. So if you want to run e.g. Emacs or Firefox, all of the menus are going to be broken.
>>
>>57439845
DE isn't just aesthetics it's also default programs like text editor, terminal, and file explorer.

A DE is more than a skin and much more than "a group of sofware", it fully controls how you interact with your system.
KDE allows for so much customization it may be overwhelming; GNOME and Unity are the "just werks" solutions, XFCE4 is simple and lightweight and MATE is for those afraid of change. Try a lot of them and see for yourself. I don't recommend you start with KDE, tho, because, as I said, so many options can be overwhelming and you're probably end up jumping onto the "so bloated xDDD" meme.

It is the file dialog, not the file manager.
The problem is that the file dialog has not been standardized enough so you can easily replace it.
And on top of that, gtk makes a bad one so you have a bad file dialog for a lot of applications.

Look, I appreciate that a bunch of devs took the time to build KDE and distribute it freely. I'm glad I got to download it and try it.

But if I have to disable an option in KDE to get things to work, then it's not a good DE. I need my working time to be spent in a codebase, not figuring out my DE. In addition, KDE really is slow! It's quite bad, very noticeable perf decrease between Mate and KDE. So I say, if you're reading this thread and are deciding between KDE and something like MATE, GNOME, Cinnamon or whatever, go with the latter and avoid KDE until it's more stable unless you don't care about having a stable desktop.
>>
>>57448726

>>
>>57448726
That's funny, for me all gnome based distros are slow as shit, especially the window management. The file managers from them are also featureless and manage to be slow at the same time, how the hell does it take half a minute to display a folder with 5000+ items. fuck off.

Get better hardware with proper standard open source drivers, no tearing problems from them. Your fault for using corporate proprietary shitdrivers that only support the bare minimum.
>>
>>57448719
It's mailach now
>>
>>57448882
If screen tearing is caused by proprietary drivers, why would you even use proprietary drivers in the first place? If you're not gaming or doing video editing, there's no reason for using them.
>>
>>57447537
You have libreoffice-gtk installed, you need to configure it to use Qt instead
>>
>>57449079
Don't do this, libreoffice-kde integration is designed for kde4 and plays extremely bad with dark themes because it puts gradients in the toolbar. Use gtk2 integration and just put the proper gtk and icon theme in the gtk systemsettings kcm. You will have no problems integrating libreoffice that way.
