What are your experiences with VPNs?
Which are the best?

I've used PIA for a while, they're alright. Speed isn't great but I don't get any DMCA shit anymore.
Though to be honest I haven't pirated that much lately, really only switch it on when I need to grab some obscure anime or something, things that probably wouldn't trip DMCA detectors anyways.

Running my own on a VPS hosted at OVH.
About 2.50 EUR / month.
Easily fast enough and I can use the VPS for other purposes too.

i did literally the exact same thing
i stopped once i realized you only can get 1 static IP
get a real VPN service

I thought most general-purpose VPS and hosting companies weren't the way to go, since they care much more about avoiding trouble than protecting your privacy - which means cutting off anyone who gets DMCA's, keeping logs and turning them over on request, etc.

OVH gives you up to 16 IPs.

It depends on what you need the VPN for. I don't do anything illegal with it. I just want to be safe on public wireless networks.

I was thinking of checking out PIA. Used CyberGhost and theirs peeds were crap.
But now you say the same for PIA. Hmm.

Yeah, checking out that site. Pretty useful.

What kind of speeds are you getting in comparison to your full speed? Percentage wise?
I tried getting AirVPN when i was looking, but they had been ddosed. Went with one called trust.zone since they met all of the privacy requirements, and it's pretty good so far. Download speeds are only about half of what I get on my network usually.
Was a little sketchy recently when their "US" servers would display as a russian IP when i checked on ipleak. Havent seen it since but its enough that I might not renew

What exacty browsing over vps does to increase your safety mate?

That's a pity. I'm seriously thinking between AirVPN (Hacktivists group) and Private Internet Access.
PIA even had a cool article on the "14 eyes". For once a support center database was actually useful.

anyone ever used cryptostorm.is? their claims seem nice, but i can't find much in terms of validation. all open source and very anti-log.
What's up with VPN Unlimited? They are offering a lifetime sub for $29... worth it? Or is this one if those "get netflix in Mexico" vpns like ExpressVPN?

I've been using PIA since about April and it's been alright for me, sometimes their program fucks up and won't connect but you can just restart it to fix that.
They have a SOCKS proxy for members too, which you can use with torrent programs etc so that only that program gets proxied, the rest of your machine will still use your normal IP (useful for posting on 4chan and whatever)
Mainly only got it because my ISP is retarded and throttle torrents, but I also found in games like CSGO my connection turns to shit after a couple of minutes being connected (even though I'm 80Mb/10Mb, with 30ms ping to the server), but if I connect to the server through the VPN the connection is fine, no idea what's actually causing it (only been happening for the past month or so) but I'd guess its my ISP being a shit again
