So I was bored and decided to read some articles on the /g/ wiki and came across passwords. The Diceware method intrigued me but I remain skeptical. How would a password consisting of nothing but english words not get cracked practically instantly by a dictionary attack? Even if you used 6 words with spaces in between, how is that a secure password?

Its not

Apparently it's more secure than you think

>use a dictionary of 10000 words to generate password
>randomly select 6 of those words in a random order

Literally a one in 100000000000000000000 chance of guessing the password. At a trillion guesses a second, it would still take years to crack.

If you're paranoid, use 7 words and you're looking at a one in 10^25 chance. That is assuming they know you use a diceware password. If their dictionary includes numbers or intentional spelling errors then it will take them significantly longer.

I just generated a 6 word password, and stored the password on a piece of paper in a picture frame. I'd like to see those fuckers in China get into my google account now. HAHA

>securing a Google account

For what purpose? It's already back-doored to hell.

All kidding aside, two factor is a very smart move too. With a strong password and two factor enabled, you're about as safe as you're going to get (unless you're berating Hillary, then Google will flag you and the government will v& you).

Six words is impossible to crack due to how big the dictionary is and a very big password lowers the cracking speed due to the bandwith needed.

Yes I also have 2-factor auth enabled. I'm more concerned about someone getting access to my bank info etc, than the NSA

Alright I understand now. Diceware is my new favorite method of choosing a passphrease
