ITT: /g/ posts most weird/ridiculous machines running GNU/linux or unix OS

literally why would you run a server os on a desktop or laptop?
Rotary transfer CNC machine
The Console runs XP but the NC runs Ubuntu 12.04 and the robot is running on Debian.

isn't really ridiculous to find linux on industrial machines
>>57428912
Pretty much this.. What does OP expect them to use?? QNX? I don't think it's updated anymore.
>>57428992
VxWorks is also a common industrial AND consumer OS (Since it's in the Airport Extreme, WRT54G, and set-top boxes and such)
>>57428912
It's not about the linux part it's more meant to be "why does this shit even need a OS??" kind of deal. So anything goes toasters, washing machines, egg timers, dildoes... As long as it exist post em
>>57428992
windows XP and embedded variants are also pretty common in industrial control, MS-DOS too if you go back far enough
>>57429616
it's probably a more cost-effective, efficient and modular route
>>57428355
Ask windows users. Windows NT is a server OS. Linux is not.

>grasping at straws
NT has been for both workstations and servers from the start and especially emphasizes on the former.

I remember using NT4 on a laptop.
They be used to create a botnet and DDOS half of the internet

Yeah, I run NT4 on most of my old laptops from that era. To call NT4 a "server" operating system in the same vein as UNIX and clones is total bullshit. They didn't even offer any decent remote access solutions for NT until they integrated Citrix WinFrame tech into NT4.

>machine has software that can be controlled
>"WHY DOES THIS NEED AN OS OMG JUST USE PHYSICAL MACHINATIONS TO MAKE THIS THING WORK"
Can't confirm for sure but i heard this thing is running Linux.
>>57431788
I saw that. Seriously, wtf. Its a slow cooker. Turn on low, cooks for shift, get home its done.

If those devs are even halfway intelligent, it should be running an RTOS.
