I installed visual studio community and use azure to deploy my websites and services, it's pretty fast, secure and comfy. I learned C#/ASP.Net/SQL in one month and now I have 5 remunerated (ads and subscription via stripe) websites and 3 hobby websites, they cost me almost nothing and I don't need to deal with unprotected FTP or git repositories.
Maybe it was advantageous 5 years ago but why do people want to use linux for web development today? I tried some php frameworks with docker and it's super fast and comfy too.

ubuntu 16.04 server
You like good looking shit, so i'd recc Elementary OS
Mint because aesthetics and just werks
Any of them... Use Ubuntu or Mint if you are uncertain and new to it. Lots of people would like you to install arch or something, but you will just spend weeks reading documentation just to run a text editor if you try that. Do something easy first and try the crazy other stuff when you feel ready. You can do everything on Ubuntu that you can on other distributions, the main difference is what comes pre-installed.

How an earth are you going to call yourself a code artisan if you don't own a mac?
Ubuntu, Debian or Fedora. For a newbie, Ubuntu. These three chosen because they're the biggest distros and also include some of the most popular ones used for servers so you can learn ahead of time.
In reality, you're good with pretty much any of them.
