>It's been brought to our attention that nVIDIA now has telemetry included with its drivers most likely if you installed GeForce Experience with the drivers. I'm getting conflicting reports whether it's specific to GeForce Experience or not. Regardless, it also continues the bloat with nVIDIA Wireless Controller and ShadowPlay services, something many don't need.
>First, let's go over what these are.
>Telemetry is essentially considered spying by many as it is a way to send data back and forth. It's nowhere near that simple, but we'd like to know what it's doing in our video drivers when it's never been needed before. nVIDIA Wireless Controller requires you have, you guessed it, a nVIDIA Wireless Controller. ShadowPlay is a way to capture and record gameplay.

You're the dumb fuck I'm afraid, anon (as well as the author of this article making assumptions). This new telemetry program gets installed silently and non-optionally with the base driver. I NEVER install GoyForce Experience and this telemetry garbage is on my machine. My firewall popped up and blocked it from dialling out as soon as I rebooted after installing the driver. There's no checkbox to opt out.

People are reporting conflicting information on whether it's present, but I have it. I did a fresh install this morning when my new 1070 arrived, running DDU first and then installing the driver, with only the display driver, audio driver and PhysX checked. The telemetry program was installed.

Others claim to have done the same thing and not had it installed. I personally installed the exact same driver in the exact same way with a GTX 570 a few days prior and it didn't install the telemetry. In fact, I posted this attached image literally yesterday in a thread about this.

The whole thing makes no sense.
>>

No, and that's a problem. It would be really damn nice to have some proper competition at the high end in the consumer graphics card market. As it is right now it's all NVIDIA and it has been for a long time. Even before Pascal a 980 Ti was quite clearly a better option than a Fury X with its limited 4GB VRAM and driver overhead. I wish AMD got their ass back into gear and started competing again. Maybe with Vega, I hope it'll be fast enough and out quick enough so NVIDIA doesn't still their thunder again with some Pascal refresh or some shit.

Nowhere did the article mention that. They are only unsure if the telemetry is included with the Base driver or GeForce Experience. The telemetry collection is a fact. Proof? nvtmrep.exe have description "NVIDIA crash and telemetry reporter",nvtmmon.exe have description "NVIDIA telemetry monitor". nVidia have effectively said that themselves. There is even a NVTelemetryAPI32.dll
Are you trying to imply these files doesn't do anything?

http://www.gamersnexus.net/industry/2672-geforce-experience-data-transfer-analysis

Geforce Experience only sends requests for images from the GeForce website and system info to recommend you settings in games.
>>
>>57431055
>Anonymous 19 hours ago.
>So you collected data for ONE whole hour... congrats. Now try that over a period of a month and then you can be more certain at what data this spyware is sending to NVIDIA.
>it's an AMD fanboy from /g/ makes a post on GN episode
>>
>>57420301
If you installed GeForce experience you deserve it
It's been a established for a long time that GeForce experience scans your entire computer and sends out data
>>
>>57431137
>scans your entire computer
Yes. To look for games.
>sends out data
See >>57431055

I didn't know AMD fanboys have to resort to newspeak justify themselves now.
>>
>>57431219
To be fair, AMD fanboys have been doing this for years. A downward spiral ever since the buyout.
>>

Isn't applocker only for blocking the user running files or am I mistaken?

Regardless, when I try to set the application identity service to automatic I just get a "access denied" even when running services.msc as admin. I guess I'm borked.
>>
So I just got my first nVidia card today, the EVGA GTX 1070 SuperClocked and so far it's running beautifully.

One problem, my old AMD had temperature monitoring as well as overclocking and fan controls built into the existing Catalyst driver and looking at the nVidia control panel, I'm not seeing any of that.

How do you nVidia bros monitor your temperature if you don't want to participate in the GeForce Botnet Experience?
>>
>>57420682
>can't even max things at 1080p60
Disgusting.
>>
It doesn't matter.
Why is it?

AMD simply has no highend video cards, so people have no choice other than going for a GTX1070/GTX1080.

Vega chips will be released in summer I think.
>>
Who cares? Nvidia is still better than AMD
>>
I'm surprised it took NVIDIA so long to catch up. AMD has been bundling shitware with their shitware drivers since 2012 when they released raptr (now rebranded to gaming evolved).
>>
>>57421900
Crimson drivers have telemetry too, but it's fine if amd does it.
>>
>>57420834
So what?

Nvidia jumped the gun and we got shit cards that are not reliable from both 1st party and 3rd party AND its a fucking inbetween generation as well.

Anyone who bought one of these for long term use instead of a Volta are absolutely fucked.

But as we all know 99% of nvidiots are hipster faggots who have to have the latest apple, i mean nvidia shit
>>
Proud to be on Team Green to be honest
>>
>>57433992
And Nvidia have been bundling GoyForce Experience with their drivers for just as long. This has nothing to do with either though, so I'm not sure why you brought it up.
>>
>>57434380

telemetry is (and has always been) part of geforce experience. it's nothing new and some AMD fanboys are spreading FUD about it for some reason. AMD (and intel if you use their closed source windows drivers) has had similar data collection going on for even longer than NVIDIA has.

Is this bait?
>>
>However, as Gamers Nexus points out, this is from the EULA and privacy policy on the Nvidia website. There is a separate policy which governs the GeForce Experience, which explicitly states it does not share any information gathered outside the company.

>From the GFE FAQ: " The application collects data needed to recommend the correct driver update and optimal settings, including hardware configuration, operating system, language, installed games, game settings, game usage, game performance, and current driver version. If a user is signed into an NVIDIA account, the data is identifiable. All data collected is protected by NVIDIA's privacy policy."

>Nvidia also provided a statement on the subject, saying "NVIDIA may share aggregate-level data with select partners, but does not share user-level data. The nature of the information collected has remained consistent since the introduction of GeForce Experience 1.0. The change with GeForce Experience 3.0 is that this error reporting and data collection is now being done in real-time."

Big whoop
>>
>>57434518

Oh you poor, poor Pajeet. Trusting a company that has your info to not share it outside of its own company. And subsidiaries. And business partners. And any government agency who comes knocking. And any 1337 h4x0r edgy faggot that hacks them and dumps the info publicly.

And NVidia isn't Microsoft. Your point?

The idea behind privacy in this day and age is too minimize the number of people who have access to info you don't want them to have.
>>
>>57430410
kinda my thoughts. We're already DROWNING in telemetry. The only way to escape it at this point is to go full Stallman with a librebooted old ass laptop, and make 200% sure to ONLY use FOSS software. If you can't pull that off, you may as well just use win10, chrome, facebook, and live that normie life.
>>
>>57435491

That's no reason to capitulate. Learn more of what they do and call that shit out. Be *pissed* when companies push it. Force them to change, not you.
>>
>>57422076
that only applies to 'it' you moron, "'s" after a noun indicates ownership.
>>
>>57421900
why do they need telemetry to do that? why not just have it be a one time thing DURING driver installation?

there is zero reason why they need to periodically send private information over to nvidia. they don't need 24/7 up-to-date information to see if a user replaced their jew 3.5gb card or upgraded to the latest jewtel processor.

or at least go the steam route of ASKING THE FUCKING USER IF THEY ARE WILLING TO SUBMIT A FUCKING SURVEY. valves method has WORKED FUCKING WONDERS.

I liked Shadowplay and FPS display features when they worked.
Now nvidia not only added spyware to it but also fucked it to death so it doesn't work well at all.

AMD doesn't do telemetry.
>>
>>57439943
radeonsettings.exe requests clipboard access and internet access even when updates are off and when it isn't the active application.
>>
>>57439961
And this is proof of telemetry?
I guess it is for /g/.

Best use internet activity of a program as proof against confirmed telemetry from nvidia because as an nvidia fanboy, I am offended that AMD doesn't fuck its users on purpose

As if windows isn't already spying on me anyway.

Anyway since we're on the topic, which model of the 1070 is the best? I'd say zotac since its cheap but has good reviews and good cooling. The gigabyte one looks good though.

Yes, because it displays active content in its home window. You can turn this off in the settings, at which point it no longer requests internet access at all.

how could we know what data is leaking to nvidia server ?
