But the thing I hate about people making threads on here about pc gaymen is that its always a poor college student that wants a gaymen laptop to do unreasonable things at an unreasonable price point.

Videogames aren't a real hobby. They suck up time but don't provide any form of self improvement. Nothing wrong with playing them every now and then but if they're your main "hobby" it's incredibly pathetic.

outside of that video games are an industry and you can make a good salary if you get in with a good company. Also if you succeed at indie games which are viciously succumbing to memes, you can make hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Playing games on old console hardware is slightly better, just because you pretty much have to learn some basic electrical knowledge once you get to fixing broken things/mods.

I was one of them. From ages 7 to around 17, I was addicted to video games. I am in college now, but am honestly filled with regret over all of the time I had wasted. I could be so much better at the things I do now, if I had started during those ages. I play guitar, lift, run, and I used to /lit/ but I was satisfied after I read all the classics that I felt were must-reads.

My point is that many of the people who are avid gamers, haven't actually taken the time for some introspection and realized what they're actually doing to themselves. Video games become addicting because they have measurable progress, so while you feel as though you're accomplishing something, you are truly just wasting one more day.

It has become so ridiculous, people now pay to watch other people play games

Anyone else here that have pretty much "grown away" from gaming? I used to play games for hours everyday when I was younger, but nowadays I just don't feel like it. Sometimes I play some Skyrim or Fallout 4, but I don't feel as into it as I used to.
I would like to enjoy games as much as I did before since I don't do anything exactly useful with my free time, mostly just browser 4chan and /r/4chan.

It's all illogical culture beliefs. Video games are nothing more than a form of recreation and/or escape. Other forms of this include spectator sports and films.

Films are a good example because whether you're a "manchild" depends on which ones you watch. If you like Star Wars, you're a manchild. But if you're into the Bourne series, that's totally normal.

As for sports, pretty much everybody in the midwestern US is into football. But the vast majority of people just sit down and watch it on TV. Pretty much nobody over 30 goes outside and plays it themselves, yet if you don't watch football on TV, follow teams religiously, and play fantasy football then you're a dork. There are many people who just pretend to be into that shit just to blend in. Nobody wants to be an outsider. Regardless, you're just sitting on the couch, being a fatass while watching two teams play. It's no more physical than playing video games. But again, it's a cultural thing.

I hardly play as much vidya as I used to. Maybe I'm just getting old (27) or games these days are just bad. Single player games, that is. I can't play online games due to being stuck on satellite internet with its high latency. If I had decent Internet, I might be playing more multiplayer meme games such as CS, BF, WoW, etc.
